Monogold Shines

Dear Monogold, if I were a record label I would sign you… Just FYI. I have been listening to Monogold’s new album off and on for about a month now… You can’t deny the goodness of this 3 piece band hailing from New York. Soaring guitar driven riffs mixed with some sublime pop. Yummy! I can honestly say I enjoy the album from front to back and I am pretty sure you will agree. Here are a couple of my favs, enjoy!

Whirlwind

Not one of my best weeks… Starting off with an 1.5 hour dentist appointment at 8AM on Monday. A very scary hospital stay for my 81 year old grandma which only leads us to realize that her mind is going and her body is growing weak, although she is still in denial and fighting us every step of the way. She is alright but they are still running some tests. It has just been a very long week to say the least and I have really not heard anything new on the music front. So tonight I have an oldie but a goodie… The always beautiful Emiliana Torrini. Enjoy this while I listen up for some new goodness to share.

Novocaine Here I Come

Going to the Dentist tomorrow… It is going to be a very long day. I have no idea how long I will be at the Dentist, there is quite a bit of work that needs to be done. I have bad teeth, because I am very strict with my brushing and flossing habits so I can’t understand why I would have cavities… My dad had bad teeth too, my mom has bad teeth and gums so I guess I feel somewhat lucky? Need another ditty to start our week off right since my Monday is going to really be a test of will… Thao is back with a new album, which for me is not my favorite but still has a handful of some great tunes. Enjoy! Wish me luck tomorrow.

Headlight Cheer
By Rachel | Album Picks | Leave a Comment
Just got a little blue… Thinking about all the money I am going to be giving my dentist in the next few months, it is kind of nauseating. I certainly need something to cheer me up. Headlights do the trick with their third delightful shoe gaze indie pop album which is shaping up to be one of my favorite albums of theirs, and possibly for the year. Enjoy!

Where The Wild Things Are

I was a little hesitant to see this movie after hearing all the poor reviews… So I went in with an open mind and I was pleasantly surprised. I recommend it and I think every boy should see this movie and dare to imagine. The soundtrack was awesome, of course, as it was Karen O from the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. I just love her and I do love me some Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.

Where Are We Going?

I don’t know where I have been but I have certainly been away from my computer. It is hard updating sometimes, it takes awhile for me to decide on what to share… I heard this on Grey’s Anatomy and raced right over to the computer to check it out. Fabulous! Sébastien Schuller hails from France, he creates dark, mysterious and beautiful music. I am quite sure you will fall in love with him as I have.
More later, I promise, I have a lot to share this week but for now I must prepare for my 7:30AM dentist appointment… Yeah, that’s right I said 7:30AM. Wish me luck.

A Busy Bee

I have been going like the energizer bunny, so when Little Dragon shuffled on my ipod, it was perfection. I love it when my ipod acts as a moon ring, sometimes it fits my mood so wonderfully. Of course, then there are other times where it continues to shuffle the same songs over and over. Little Dragon is a 4 person band based out of Sweden, they create some unique electronic music that singer Yukimi Nagano infuses with so much soul, it is all fantastic.
Tonight, I am simply exhausted. Enjoy and good night.

Preoccupied

I have been kind of distant from the internet, just doing other stuff I guess. The last couple of days I have also been a total nerd, I have been playing Wii Sports. I think we all go through little spurts, what we enjoy doing in our free time differs from time to time. Right now I am enjoying playing a little Wii Baseball and shuffling my music. What shuffled on? The Decemberists, their 2009 album, Hazards Of Love. For me, it was not as strong as The Crane Wife but still a complete piece of art. The songwriting is so well thought out and beautiful, they always manage to tell a story.

Long Days and Short Nights

One of my longer days… On Yom Kippur even. I had my first exam of the semester and a 9AM meeting. I just want to draw a nice warm bath, relax and hope tomorrow will be brighter. So that, my friends, is exactly what I am going to do. Here’s to better days and a new year. Enjoy. xX

All Time Favorite #22
By Rachel | All Time Favorite | Leave a Comment
I hesitate to select this film as an All Time Favorite... Mostly because it is THE obvious choice. Pulp Fiction is THE film, an Oscar winner and certainly a Quentin Tarantino masterpiece. It is not an understatement, the film is brilliant… I have seen this movie more times then I can even remember and the music is absolute perfection. Tarantino’s films have claimed quite a few spots on my All Time Favorite list but that is because he creates excellent films and pairs them with just the right songs. Jackie Brown is by far my favorite Tarantino movie but Pulp Fiction comes a close 2nd. Enjoy!
