At the tops of my lungs
By Rachel | Album Picks | 6 Comments
Lets just jump right in shall we? I will be the first to admit I am high strung to say the least, it is just my nature, my mothers side obviously. I have limited patience. The only problem with this is that I can’t fake it. Damn it to hell. Sometimes I wish I could so badly! I wear my emotions on my sleeve, wait scratch that I spell it out in big bright red letters. So if you rub me the wrong way, it takes all the strength within me to hide it. I also know I have a lot of anger, I am not at peace yet… Still working on that but I am learning, I have my ups and downs you know?
Anyways, I needed to blow off some steam. IÂ jumped in my car and put on Mates of State, Re-Arrange Us. I love listening to this album super loud while driving in my car singing along. This album kind of surprised me because I didn’t really care for some of their previous work but this album has had some major staying power.

Plans Fall Through
By Rachel | Music Mix Up, The Lists | 5 Comments
I have been having some computer issues, I think this laptop is starting to take a turn for the worse. Which is not really a surprise as I think it is just about 6 years old, that is like 95 in human years! Anyways… This was my post from yesterday, edited just a tad. :-)
I love the way Katie Herzig belts these words… “I’m not even close to where I want to be”. I know this feeling so well it gets to be overwhelming at times… At one point I thought I would have kids by 30, I am almost 28 and not even married. But you know I look around at old friends from high school and some of them are married and already have kids and I know right now that is totally not where I want to be… I am not ready for kids, I still have so much I want to see and do. I want to travel, get my scuba license, adopt my own rescue dog and maybe even go to grad school.
I can relate to this song so well though and I love her for it, I love the emotion she puts into her music, the way in which she expresses so much passion in each and every one of her songs. She was recently featured on the Season Finale of Grey’s Anatomy with Matthew Perryman Jones, also highly recommended.

p.s. Check out the interview with Sam Mendes where he talks about the film Away We Go and how the movie is primarily about 2 people who are just getting their shit together in their thirties. Ain’t It Cool

Take Me as I Am
By Rachel | Album Picks | 3 Comments
Where does the time go? I look at the clock this evening and it is already 10:00. The Holiday weekend flew by at mach speeds! So unfair.
My mom is doing much better… She has gotten to the point where she is sick of sitting around but she is still in a lot of pain so I told her to get used to it, nicely of course. My grandma arrived today… I still can’t believe she is 80, she doesn’t seem a day past 75. My mom was already losing patience with her… Sigh. I saw myself doing the same thing this weekend, I have to work on patience with the women in my family even though they have none themselves!
Tonight, “something quick”. How can you not love a little Au Revoir Simone? Their new album Still Night, Still Light was just released and I am currently enjoying it very much and I happen to think you may as well…
p.s. It appears that I have been on somewhat of a Grey’s Anatomy kick but in all actuality if I hear it on Grey’s Anatomy first I usually mention it… Other than that most of the music I find while perusing eMusic, Myspace or KCRW. That being said I think one of the songs off this new album of Au Revoir Simone’s was played recently but I am not positive. Now, I could look it up but I am rather lazy at the moment so that is the end of that. :-)

Sweet Dream
By Rachel | Music Mix Up | 12 Comments
My mom is having surgery tomorrow (well for most of you reading this it will be today, Wednesday) on her shoulder, pretty routine especially for her since she has the muscle tissue of Gumby. Always the mom though, “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine” she says. She is crazy but I love her so. Think happy, wonderful thoughts tomorrow please!
Greg Laswell soothes my soul tonight… He puts all anxiety at ease with his haunting vocals and delicious melodies. The first pick is short but ever so sweet and the second is just so uplifting I could not resist.

With The Notes In My Ears
By Rachel | Album Picks | 4 Comments
I just love this song… It brings a big smile to my face and makes me so very happy. This entire 2008 album was just lovely. Broderick’s music is gentle and comforting, perfect for a sleepy Wednesday night. Peter Broderick is currently on tour in Europe and has a new tour EP, Falling From Trees, which is available for purchase if you attend one of his shows of course.

I watch the hours slow down
By Rachel | Album Picks | 5 Comments
Nothing new has really been tickling my fancy or if it did tickle I am still laughing and enjoying it to post it just yet. So tonight we will rewind to 2008 as I share some music that I had missed…
I have to go into court tomorrow to take care of a speeding ticket I got on Valentines Day. This state is so f’d that I tried to request an extension via the internet and phone but they are so backed up that my paper work has yet to be processed. Doesn’t mean I am not responsible for the ticket unfortunately…
Joshua Radin has become a golden god of the LA singer songwriter scene. His music has been featured on Scrubs (Zach Braff loves him) and Grey’s Anatomy. I also featured him in 2006 for his album, We Were Here, which you can find here. Radin released Simple Times in 2008. The album remained true to Radin’s roots, simple yet he adds a little bit of spice, which added some more depth… A few of the songs from this sophomore album made it the iPod so I thought I would share one of my favorites. Enjoy!
