Beirut, The Flying Club Cup
Filed Under Album Picks | 13 Comments
In the past couple of years I have listened to countless bands but no other band touches me deep in my soul quite like Beirut. Maybe it is because of their distinct sound or Condon’s one of kind vocals, or even the sure love for music that speaks volumes in every one of their composed tracks. Most likely it is a combination of it all and I can’t get enough. Beirut’s second full length album, The Flying Club Cup is a progression of sound, a delightful dance of French chanson and one of my favorite albums of the year. I see them live this Thursday, October 11th at the Avalon Hollywood.

The Most Serene Republic & iPod Woes
Filed Under Album Picks | 4 Comments
So I kind of have had a rough couple of days…I got a marvelous present from (guess who*) just because. The new 80GB iPod Classic! It is beautiful and sexy. I have been an iPod Apple fan for a long time, in my opinion there isn’t a better mp3 player but unfortunately my new iPod came in the mail and I immediately plugged it into my laptop and the errors began. I got an error while syncing, I got an error while uploading manually, I got an error for ejecting and I even got an error for looking at it (I kid, I kid that last one didn’t happen but it seemed like it did). We went into the apple store and of course they haven’t heard of anyone else having this problem but if you go onto the Apple forum there are people commenting left and right about this same problem. So currently we are trying to see if we can exchange it for a new one that hopefully doesn’t have the same defective nature. I will keep you posted…
In the mean time check out the newest album from this Canadian based band (I know, I know I am applying for citizenship as we speak Mentok) The Most Serene Republic has been soothing my soul the last couple of days. Enjoy!

The Poison Control Center

I am digging this band! The Poison Control Center is an Iowa band that make some lively indie-rock. Their debut album is filled with psych-pop rhythms and energetic lyrics, which come together to make a solid sound that I am enjoying indeed.
Other than that the days don’t seem to be getting any shorter but I’m keeping myself entertained by playing a little Halo 3, which is proving to be harder than I thought but addictive.

New Buffalo Plays
Filed Under Album Picks | 6 Comments
New Buffalo helped take my Monday blues away…This Monday was not like most Monday’s as instead of waking up at the crack of dawn to go to work I had to wake up at the crack of dawn and serve Jury Duty…Oh my dear friends this was my first experience and oh how I wish it was my last. No one wanted to be there, I didn’t want to be there but alas all of us were summoned to the courts of hell to serve justice! Thank goodness it is over…Now I can rest assured I won’t get another Jury Summons for at least 12 months but after that I am fair game…Bastards.

Film School, Hideout
Filed Under Album Picks | Leave a Comment
Film School is a five member band from San Francisco that have survived troublesome times after the bands main man Greg Bertens was jumped outside a Columbus, Ohio club last year and their van was stolen in Philadelphia, which contained all their equipment and to shake things up a little more they lost a few of their band members as well.
But Film School has prevailed and this past Tuesday they released their second full length album, Hideout. An album filled with soaring guitars and driving rhythms which manage to take you away to far off places.

Caribou, Andorra

Caribou just makes you feel good…I just want to say, “Weeee!” They kind of have a 60’s pop sound mixed in with a little psych rock. If Belle and Sebastian tickle your fancy then I would certainly recommend this 4 piece band from Canada (Another band I recommend that hails from Canada…How many is that now Mentok?) I love their soaring energetic rock, it’s like a drug…You just want it to take you as high as it possibly can…Not that I know from experience. ;-)

The New Pornographers, Challengers

I got twinkle lights from Target! Except mine were only $4.99. They make the bedroom sparkle and that makes me smile. Weeee!
The New Pornographers make me smile as well, their new album Challengers was just released on Tuesday. An album filled with instrumental delights and harmonies infused with energetic pop. Once again this Canadian band manages to captivate my ears with their fourth success, I highly recommend a listen this album will be on many end of the year lists. Enjoy!

Apparat, Walls

I got in an accident today…I rear ended someone. Seriously? Yeah seriously. I cried like a little girl, not because I was hurt; in fact no one is hurt everyone is alright, it was merely just a fender bender but a major headache. Great!
The job has been fun…Really, I mean it is all good fun and good music…What’s not to like? Well I think I am just used to positions that pay me more and as much as I would love to be in the position where I can take a pay cut, I have a little bit of debt so this worries me. But we will see, one day at a time.
Speaking of the job I was working the other day and I had at least 5 people come in ask me about a band that goes by the name of Eisley and each of these people were looking for their new album, Combinations. So I decided to check them out and figured maybe I will post about them…But sadly I was mistaken…I don’t like cookie cutter indie pop-rock so I had to completely scratch that idea and instead decided to post a good electronic delicacy from the German band Apparat, their new album Walls is just delicious, and there is nothing cookie cutter about it.
