Andrew Bird, Soldier On
Filed Under Album Picks | 8 Comments
Andrew Bird released this Soldier On EP last year and I guess it was supposed to just be a European release but they came to their senses and realized that was just silly. It has some remixes and early versions of songs from his amazing Armchair Apocrypha and it also has a special cover of Bob Dylan’s, Oh Sister (which is fantastic by the way)
I am enjoying it indeed…I didn’t however enjoy this Monday, felt like I could have really used another day off…Was it just me?

Breathe Owl Breathe

Where the hell have I been? I know it has been awhile but I have been quite sick and I haven’t had a whole lot of time to sit down and rest either. I have been running around between birthdays, shows, work and dinners…I am pooped and I am also not feeling any better because of it. So tonight I am just trying to sit back and relax with a little bit of music.
The beloved emusic turned me on to this goodness, Micah Middaugh and Bill Callahan are the duo who make up the band Breathe Owl Breathe. A mix of organic instruments a little bit of folk and a pinch of sugar just to make it unique and one of a kind. Their voices meld together and intertwine so beautifully it is really quite charming…I am in love. :-)
P.S. Their new album was just release on Earthwork Music, haven’t picked it up yet, I will certainly keep you posted.

SXSW Pick

Yeah…I wish I was there…I admit it and hopefully I will get to go one year, which I imagine will happen someday soon. But I can still highlight some bands from SXSW week!
Meric Long and Logan Kroeber make up The Dodos who make some really awesome experimental folk rock. They hail from San Francisco, one of the coolest cities in California by far…And it leaves me wondering am I cool enough to listen to this awesome music? I wonder. ;-)
Their new album, Visiter will be released March 18th and I am looking forward to it. Enjoy!

What Did You Say?

The President of United States offends me on a regular day basis…I didn’t think it was possible but he manages to pull it off daily. And I am so done with him…
And what perfect music to accompany this mood…Plants and Animals kick some major ass! And another band which hails from Canada…I really need to consider moving there. This three member band can make some great funky indie rock that has just enough original attitude to make you get up and start dancing. Dance away the day! Dance away frustration! Dance away this President!
I would just like to add that I am seriously dancing right now in front of my computer and loving every minute of it! Puma is looking at me like I am nuts though…This album is awesome!

Bon Iver is Yummy
Filed Under Album Picks | 11 Comments
Sorry it has been so quiet around here this week…I noticed this week has been a strange one, eerily quiet. Like for instance yesterday there was no traffic on my way home from work and I thought how is this possible? In the middle of the week that is just…Scary. But there was not a brake-light to be seen. Ok so I am going to go listen to some music…Care to join me? Geez my posts have been rather dorky this week as well. I’m the odd one.
I know Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) is all the rage at the moment and that is because his debut album was just released, For Emma, Forever Go and DAMN it is GOODNESS…A gentle but passionate album that has a cohesive mellow vibe that just makes me feel good inside.

Halou, Sawtooth EP

Halou is another project by Ryan and Rebecca Coseboom (R/R Coseboom) And if this all looks somewhat familiar to some of you that is because I have previously mentioned this duo HERE.
It is President’s Day here but not everyone got a holiday, sadly…But everyone I seem to know right now is either just getting over being sick or is sick currently…I have to be honest I am a little scared my immune system won’t be able to fight this all off. I mean it is coming from every direction! So I am in a kick ass kind of mood, it will be a fight till the death!
And I couldn’t ask for better music to accompany. Stay healthy everyone!

Love And Stuff

It is Valentine’s Day. It is really not all that exciting…People should be spreading love year round. The best thing about today is that I woke up to a cloudy sky and some rain drops on the ground. That made me smile and Pip’s post made me smile…Cute-ums indeed!
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day I thought I would post Ida, Dan Littleton and Elizabeth Mitchell are a husband and wife team who make up the core members of Ida. They have just released a new album, Lovers Prayers and it is an album filled with gentle melodies and hushed vocals perfect for cuddling up with your Valentine.

Thao Love

I am kind of not in the best of moods this evening…The kind of mood where you don’t really want to come near me because I just might snap. Don’t know why really…I think part of it is the weather in California right now, sunshine has the opposite effect on me than most. It has been like 75 degrees here the last week and there hasn’t been a cloud in the sky…It just pisses me off to look outside and see a brown layer of smog in the horizon…It isn’t pretty it is just gross and puts me in a foul mood. So I decided to just come home and throw on my headphones and zone out.
I am listening to the new album from singer songwriter, Thao Nguyen. We Brave Bee Stings and All is her second album and it is really a solid delight. A 11 track album filled with singer songwriter pop songs with a little bit of a folk undertone, good stuff indeed. And she does a lovely job of putting a smile on my face. :-)
A couple of my favorite tracks…

Cat Power, Jukebox
Filed Under Album Picks | 14 Comments
Well as you can see I was asked to remove the tracks that I hand picked from Jukebox. So I will comply…The problem is the promo tracks that they have so graciously allowed are not my favorite tracks from the album, although Metal Heart is an amazing song and one of my personal favs it was first found on Cat Power’s 1998 album, Moon Pix. Sigh…But I suppose it will have to do for all those who are not that familiar with Cat Power hopefully it will be enough to pull you in.
mp3: Metal Heart (Chan Marshall)
I can’t resist Cat Power (Chan Marshall), I love her, of course not in a romantic sense but in a sense that she can do no wrong in my eyes. Her voice just makes my heart beat the rhythm to her sultry sounding chords. Jukebox is her second album of covers, an album of classic songs of those who have influenced her the most over the years. Songs from the likes of Janis Joplin, Hank Williams, James Brown and Billie Holiday. This album is something to be heard indeed.A couple of my favorite tracks from the long awaited new album…

Sia Delights

It seems I am having some sort of female singer love fest here because I have been enjoying Sia’s new album, Some People Have Real Problems. An album filled with a lot more soul than her previous 2006 album, Colour The Small One and I must say I like what I hear, I mean it certainly won’t be my fav album of the year if you know what I mean…But it does have a few diamonds amongst the rough that we can all enjoy. Tickets for her North American tour are now on sale.
Kind of a short post tonight because I am dead tired and I couldn’t be more ready to get into my jam jams and snuggle away the evening and what perfect music to relax to…
