Final Fantasy, ‘He Poos Clouds’
By Rachel | Album Picks | 3 Comments
1. There is a new album, it’s called “He Poos Clouds”. It’s contents: an atheist explanation of magical phenomena, Yukio Mishima, Julia Kristeva, Galina Ustvolskaya and ragtime, love of video game characters, the dying, Pern and modern dating, the link between condominium retail and impotence, Bartok’s 2nd string quartet, Irish metafictional characters and baking.
Owen Pallett is a violinist and singer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he is also the genius behind Final Fantasy. Such an odd character who is quite brilliant and as always a pleasure to listen to.
So I know it’s short but that’s all I got tonight…
But before I go I will leave you with 2 tracks from Final Fantasy’s May 2006 release…

David Bazan, Fewer Moving Parts

David Bazan, Fewer Moving Parts
David Bazan (aka Pedro the Lion) continues to make music but now under his own name and under his own roof. Bazan returns to his home studio where he will record everything himself, but he is not going backwards by any means. Instead he moves forward by incorporating multi-tracked guitars, layers of harmonious sound, and intricate piecing with his unique lyrics and melodic voice.
His new EP ‘Fewer Moving Parts’ contains two different versions of 5 new songs; one version striped to the bare bone and another version with full instrumentation. I am loving this EP and seriously can’t wait for his full length expected in 2007, which he will go to work on after his tour.
Cheers to artistic progression!
In other news my car has been in the shop since Thursday…$1400 worth of damage to my favorite car all from running over a board of wood on the freeway. Although, I am only paying my insurance deductible I fear if I don’t get my car back soon I think I may cry.
These last two days seem to have passed by slower than a full 30 day month…But I keep moving on…Like coxon said,
‘just keep on keeping on ’cause eventually, slowly but surely, you’ll come unstuck. It’s all just like eating toffee really.’
Well said, indeed. :)

Day In The ‘Lovebox’
By Rachel | Album Picks | 2 Comments
I don’t know if yesterday was “Away from PC” kind of day or people just simply didn’t like the BOAT…I watched the World Cup which was a good game…Then I look up and all I see is the replay of Zidane head-butting his opponent Materazzi in the chest…WTF? I wish I was a fly buzzing around the two of them as they exchanged words before the shit hit the fan. The game was just downhill from there, I mean it literally just painted the entire mood of the world black…
I don’t know what is going on with me, I am just ‘stuck’. I feel just uncomfortable all the time…
Choices are made and it’s like I can see some of the consequences before hand yet I just ignore them…
That is just nuts…I am moving on…
Me, which is the official name of this acoustic/indie/folk (whatever other genre you want to throw on there) musician from Germany…Lovebox, was released June 9th in Europe. This 10 track album has a beautiful delicate sound. A lovely debut indeed.

Helene, Routines
By Rachel | Album Picks | 4 Comments
Helene, Routines
I was sitting here going back and forth between posting Helene…I think this hesitation stems from some tracks on this album crossing the ‘Country’ line. I can’t stand country music, I mean just the hint of it will turn me off completely…But her mellow sonorous voice can’t be denied and there are certainly a handful of tracks on this new album that I can’t live without. So, of course I invite you to listen…What else?
Don’t know, well I do…
But I think it just seems pointless to talk it out right now.
It’s hot, it has been a steady 80+ for 2 weeks…La De Da.

The Submarines, Declare A New State

The Submarines, Declare a New State!
June 20th was the magical day that The Submarines blessed this world with their new album, Declare A New State on Nettwerk Records…There is a delightful little story about these two on their site that explains how this album came about. For me to post it here seems just kind of redundant…*sigh*I feel blue this evening…So I am going to drift off to sleep…
OH BUT WAIT! What did I do last night? Well I listened to the new
Contrast Podcast #14 You should listen too!
Aimez-vous la langue française ? Vous savez que je fais.
Don’t ask me to translate! Ok fine it says, ‘Do you like the French language? You know that I do.’ See it sounds so much better in French.
Just go now! Hurry, you will love it, I promise.
Now, without further adieu…

Tonight Is Monster Movie Night

Monster Movie, All lost
I have no idea where these guys came from, one of those bands you have to just stumble upon…And stumble I did. Christian Savill and Sean Hewson are the duo behind Monster Movie and All Lost is their third full length album. The beautiful vocals are by the lovely Rachel Staggs of ‘experimental Aircraft’ & ‘Eau Claire’. There are some amazing tracks on this album and if you like what you hear I encourage you to support these guys, I look forward to watching this band progress, I will certainly have my eye on them.Today is the 4th of July here in the U.S.A…

I could really give two shits what day it is. HA! I am certainly not very patriotic and haven’t been for…Let’s see, about 7 years now. So tonight I will be going to play pool while the rest of this country uses this day for another excuse to get drunk. Cheers!

Sunset Dreams Please

Sunset Rubdown, Shut Up I Am Dreaming
I do apologize for the lack of posts, I have reached my limit on EZ and since my employer goes by the pay later rather than sooner policy I literally have no money…Saturday we went into Fingerprints, I am not sure why, I guess I was in a masochistic mood, but I actually just love the smell of the place…(I also just lost like a bunch of readers just saying that I am sure, but oh well)I have been just Blah! Fighting battles with my self again, a one way ticket to no where land. Kind of getting down on my self, it being July and all…Turning 25 in 16 days…25!?! Seriously. For some one who has always welcomed her birthday with open arms this feeling that is developing now is a little scary…*sighs*
So cheers to something…Ah yes, cheers to Sunset Rubdown! Some may have heard of this Canadian band and some have not, to those who have not…One track tonight off of their May 2, 2006 release, for more samples check out their
my space.

‘Walk Me Down Your Broken Line’
By Rachel | Album Picks | 4 Comments
Joshua Radin, We Were Here
Now, I am well aware that this album was not released on June 27, 2006 but rather June 13, 2006 and although I am not really liking the album cover (I think it would be a little better minus the lame picture of him on the door hanger), but I am loving the music inside.I am not going to carry on for long, I wanted to be in bed three hours ago…But before bed…
I have to say thank you…Tonight I was in a dark place, I just had a rotten day and tomorrow is going to be just as bad because that pill of a client is going to freak…But that is not the point…
The point is that I came home and read Pogo a Go-Go and Let’s kiss and make up… and I laughed, I cried and I heard some fantastic music. To Fil and Colin, reading your words and listening to your selected music is truly the high-light of my day and for that I thank you both. Cheers!
Also, how awesome was it to open up iTunes and see Alexi Murdoch up on the Indie Spotlight!!??!! It was so great! :)
Now my selections of the day are from Mr. Joshua Radin who is also a singer/song-writer type, and although Alexi stands high above anyone else in my book; Joshua would be my second choice, indeed.
