The Hard Tomorrows
By Rachel | Album Picks | 1 Comment
Yeah I have been sitting on this for quite sometime…My apologies. But perhaps I was waiting for something, like some news or an update of sorts…Such as their new album, Lights Out set to be released in September.
Good times…
Things that were not such good times? This week. It sucked.
Bring on the weekend and bring on the make-up sleep…Yeah for sleep!
Let’s see what else? I saw Woody Allen’s new film last weekend, Scoop. It was pretty good, Allen was quite funny…But it wasn’t one of his best, still better than the rest ;)
Tonight I saw In The Mood For Love (2000) directed by Wong Kar-Wai…This is an excellent film, if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend that you do. Also, the music is excellent.
Ok time for bed…Glorious sleep.
Quick note on one of the following tracks, Stay Cool carries on into a mini hidden track, just a heads-up (wow I just said heads-up) ok…

Handle-shaped Prominence (09.14.1999)
Tired, so very tired this evening. Long day, sick of summer…I wish I could just walk around all the time with my head phones on, tune in to the music and tune out the world around me. Am I a bad person for wanting this?
I guess my view of the world as of this moment is like watching a bad movie (for instance War of the Worlds, sorry to the fans) War of the Worlds was written terribly but whenever it is on the tele. I can’t seem to take my eyes off it…This is how I am in regards to the world right now…Anyways how did I get on this topic? Where am I? What am I? And who may I ask are you?
Must sleep now, good night, good morning, and to some good afternoon.
I leave you with new music from, A Lily & 0898 Dave.

By Rachel | Music Mix Up | 3 Comments
Alexi will be performing live at The Casbah, his final show before he departs the Souther California area on the rest of his tour. I came across a recent in-studio of his at MPR (Minnesota Public Radio). And I fell in love with this man all over again, he is wonderful, I mean, I am seriously blushing…It will be a lovely night.
The in-studio features a chat with Tony Lopez and 3 songs:
‘Breathe’, ‘Song For You’ & ‘Dream of Flying’
I am off to bed, good night.

Contrast Podcast #18
By Rachel | Music Mix Up | 6 Comments
The new Contrast Podcast is up and considering this weeks theme is a personal favorite of mine I direct everyone’s attention this way. The theme? Instrumentals with sung introductions, which is flipping awesome! And I have to give my respect to all who participated this week, because I totally didn’t have enough guts to sing an intro, also how difficult would it be for me to narrow down an instrumental of my choice!!! Geez near impossible…This week’s Contrast Podcast is excellent, you will definitely hear something new and you will get to hear some of my favorite people singing their hearts out.
So go now and come back here a little later for new music. :)

Steve Adey, All Things Real
By Rachel | Album Picks | 5 Comments
I seemed to have made a wrong turn today and ended up in a dark distant place, but that is really not the reason I come here tonight…I come here tonight to dedicate a song to someone who has been gone far too long and I honestly didn’t think I would miss his presence as much as I have for the last month? It seems like it has been far too long without you Colin ( Let’s kiss and make up… ) I miss you, hurry home.
The following selection is dedicated to you, a cover of Will Oldham’s, I See A Darkness
Steve Adey evokes more emotion into this song then previously thought possible, his new album, is out now on Grand Harmonium Records, All Things Real
Good night.

White Whale, WWI

This Saturday July 29th is the 2006 Blogathon a 24 hour event for charity!
Blogathon: Blog-a-thon. “People update their websites every 30 minutes for 24 hours straight. For this, they collect sponsorships. Pledges can be a flat donation, or a certain amount for every hour the blogger manages to stay awake.”
And that means some of the greatest Mp3 Blogs on the internet will be posting every 30 min!!!! And for charity at that!!!! I am so excited. I may be participating in a group effort for the Global Fund for Women
I will post more details later on that but please stop by and support those who are participating…Cheer them on and support their efforts to help bring about change.
I have missed the boat a bit it seems…Can’t believe it is already midnight…Time seems to go in slow motion in this part of the world, which is rather ironic considering LA is deemed to be this busy trend setting city. It is kind of difficult to be trend-setting much of anything when you are still living through Tuesday while places like Hong Kong are going on Wednesday late afternoon…
Anyways, sorry about the non-sense, and that was most certainly dribble drabble considering all the new music out. Seriously I don’t know what to post, I want to post them all but…but…I don’t even know where to begin…Well actually I started last night with the The Rosewood Thieves, which are just climbing up my Best Albums 2006 list, I might add…
But tonight…Tonight we celebrate the White Whale and their debut album, WWI (Merge Records) . It is awesome. The track Fidget and Fudge, which I have posted below is an epic song filled with mellow tones all the way to the full force sound of electric guitars, I highly recommend a listen…

The Rosewood Thieves, From The Decker House
I nearly fell out of my chair after this EP was thrown at me (not literally thrown) but this 6 track release is really quite impressive. They put their all into writing these songs and gentlemen it shines, I applaud.
I am carrying on a bit but this band is lead by singer/songwriter Erick Jordan and From The Decker House was written while the band held themselves up in a house in Deposit, NY where they cut off their ties to the internet, television, and phone to sit down and collaborate together to create music and they did a damn fine job at that.
In other news around here, my car is still in the shop…Either that or it is currently being driven by a group of teens that decided to take it to Mexico where they are currently launching my car off of sand dunes…So yeah it is freaking amazing what running over a wooden board can do to a car…
I still feel like I am no longer living on earth but instead I take up residence on the sun because it really is that hot everywhere!!!
Anyways, now the music…

The Minders, ‘It’s A Bright Guilty World’
By Rachel | Album Picks | 4 Comments
I must say I am loving the title of their new album, It’s A Bright Guilty World was released on my b-day (July 18th) on Future Farmer Recordings. Check out the link for a nice bio on the band and check out the bands myspace.
As for the music, well I am posting it so I am most certainly liking it…I decided to go with two tracks that sway in a slower acoustic direction than some of their other more airy tracks on this album. But I definitely think it is an album that is worthy of some attention…
Anyways I am off for the night, heading to Amoeba in LA. Have a wonderful night all!

Alias & Tarsier
By Rachel | Album Picks | 1 Comment
I am melting…Seriously.
Yesterday, was a good day, not terribly exciting.
I did get a new iPod Nano, it is so very small, which works out wonderfully considering my size, I am quite short and have tiny hands (I think they stopped growing when I was five).
So that was very exciting, (the pod not the hands)
Other than that it is hot, and more importantly I am hot.
I want to live in the freezer…That would be my ideal…I should move to Murrnansk in Russia, a polar climate.
Is summer over yet?
So before I go to sleep in the freezer, I give you music from Alias & Tarsier, also a video interview of the duo. I know their album, ‘Brookland/Oaklyn’ was released in May but I didn’t know of their existence until just recently and I immediately fell in love with their sound, so hopefully you will as well.

Tangled Up With Cortney Tidwell
By Rachel | Album Picks | 4 Comments
Well this might have been the hardest post I have ever done…I couldn’t decide…It took me forever and a day to finally put my foot to the ground and just POST!
Oh well, hopefully this will tickle your fancy. If not then well, I have failed you and I apologize…
Ok well maybe it is not that serious, but it could be…
Today I chose Cortney Tidwell to serenade us on my day of birth, she has the dreamy vocals that I do so enjoy. ;)
Sleepy time for me and listening time for you
