One Evening
Filed Under Album Picks | Leave a Comment
I often will go back through a musicians music catalog on word of an upcoming release, it makes me that much more excited for the new and unknown. Feist’s new album, Metals drops October, 4th. I am oh so ready.
Let It Die 2005 (Interscope)
The evening was long
My guesses were true
You saw me see you
That something you said
The timing was right
The pleasure was mineThe time and the place
The look on your face
Sincerest eyesIf you’re ready or not
The state of our hearts
There’s no time to takeWhen we started
Both brokenhearted
Not believing
It could begin and end in one eveningWe were caught by the light
Held on the day
‘Till it became hours
The minutes went by
The cab is outside
There’s no time to takeWhen we parted
Moving on
And believing
It could begin and end in one eveningWhen we started both brokenhearted
Not believing
It could begin and end in one evening
When we parted
Moving on
And believing
It could begin and end in one evening

The Way It Will Be

Gillian Welch needs no introduction, you have heard her at some point in her long career. Whether it be one of her past five albums or her work she did in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, her stunning Americana song-writing is timeless. This is my absolute favorite song from the album. Sit back and soak it all up.

Gun Shy – Widowspeak

Widowspeak is a trio hailing from Brooklyn, NY and they create fabulous shoegaze indie rock that is ever so dreamy. Their sound is a cross between Mazzy Star and Beach House. Absolute love.

That’s The Spirit

That’s The Spirit is a band from Ottawa, CA and they create real, honest folk that is absolutely fantastic. They are self-released and wonderful. That’s The Spirit is the perfect band name, right on for the type of music they create. Their music gives off a really great folk vibe. My only request is that they continue to make music because they are oh so good at it. So please help support this unsigned band and buy their album. xx

I wasn’t really anticipating spending an obnoxious amount of time restoring my iPod this evening, but Cortney Tidwell kept me company and I was reminded of how much I really love her. So much so that I am a bit selfish and would like her to release a new album every year. Don’t you wish that would happen? This Nashville born musician is a natural, her music is dark and beautiful. I have been listening to Cortney Tidwell for years and her music is just as good as it was the first time I heard it. Please enjoy while I curl up into bed, it was a rough one.

A White Demon Love Song
Filed Under Album Picks | 4 Comments
Well I have gone and done something terrible to my wittle wrist and I am being quite the baby about it. In my defense it feels as if it is fractured, I woke up in tears this morning and I believe I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I fear it is the dreaded Carpal Tunnel… Shhhhh I know we should not speak those words here. I have not been diagnosed by a practicing M.D., but of course the first sign of any pain or strange mark on my body I immediately obsess about the worse case scenario. It is a neurotic sickness for sure. I am making jokes now that the pain meds have kicked in, but I am actually pretty scared about it being my right dominate hand. The slightest touch can make me cringe with pain. I wasn’t really functioning at full capacity today and I definitely had a tough time parking. Geesh. And I kind of feel like, Happy 30th Birthday! Here come the aches and pains of old age! Yay!
p.s I am making an appointment with my Doctor tomorrow, begrudgingly.
So tonight my only introduction is that this is my all time favorite Killers song, hands down. And I know it is from the Twilight Soundtrack, but I don’t care because I love that soundtrack and I love this song. So goodnight. I am going to rest and ice my wrist and hope that a little fairy comes down and heals it overnight. If only.

Their fourth full length album just makes you feel good. It is upbeat and airy, a gentle mix of rock and pop that is perfect for a summer afternoon. I am all about the summer right now, just as long as it stays 75 degrees. Enjoy!

Off to New York this morning… So I thought what better than to post something familiar, something soothing. Jim James has a voice of an angel.
Have a lovely Holiday weekend here in the States and I will see you all next week!

The Civil Wars, Beautiful Folk

“There’s no reasons, no excuses
There’s no second-hand alibis
Just some black ink on some blue lines
And a shadow you won’t recognize”
Tonight something wonderful, something mellow and calming. I am flying to NY on Thursday… Flying always freaks me out just a bit. The stress and nerves get me every time and these days it is so much more difficult with all the security and restrictions… that alone is enough to make anyone feel a bit on edge. I am not a big traveler, there is something about being stuck with all these strangers for 5+ hours that gives me a bit of the heebie jeebies. But I do love NY and I am excited to be there for a few days with my Mom, family and friends.
I am currently listening to the debut full length from The Civil Wars, really a bare bones beautiful album. Also, check out Pressing Flowers from their Poison & Wine EP, gorgeous track that should be in everyone’s music library. xx

Bon Iver Goes Bold

…and at once i knew i was not magnificent.
high above the highway aisle
(jagged vacance, thick with ice)
i could see for miles, miles, miles
There is a certain freedom you hear on this new album, an openness and greater depth that was not previously heard on For Emma, Forever Ago. Bon Iver is an album filled with elaborate, vivid arrangements accompanied by Justin Vernon’s unique vocals. This album is Bon Iver the band.  It breathes life into your ears and you feel the emotion. It is bold, dreamy and beautiful, a definite favorite of 2011.
