Sometree, Hands and Arrows EP
Thank you for the kind words in regards to my previous post, I appreciate it. I am all smiles thanks to you. :)
Now on to the music…Alex, Bernd, Björn and Sebastian make up Sometree they hail from Berlin, Germany and their discography dates back to 1998. I have to make up for lost time…But just recently they have returned home for some rest and relaxation and I heard their 6 track Hands and Arrows EP, which contains a couple of very lovely remixes along with the original album version and a couple of other wonderful songs. Immediately I was hooked…Wonderful dreamy melodies drenched with layers of guitars and strong vocals.
So two tracks to sample:
Be advised that the following computer remix sounds as if it is skipping towards the beginning but rest assured that is supposed to sound that way. Enjoy.

Well…
*sigh*
That is it…That is all I have tonight. I am just in a dark, dark place.
Call it EMO, call it PMS, I don’t really care…
I escape.
My accomplice? Sol Seppy.
She is phenomenal.
And yes I know I have already covered her somewhere in a post down below and to the side under 2006 Album Cue. But she has had some other releases this year so just listen and you will see what I am carrying on about…And note to those in Europe she hits the road with Sparklehorse this month.

Home Video

Collin Ruffino and David Gross are the two behind Home Video, they met in high-school, started making music under their current band name in 2003. They made Rolling Stone’s “Artist to Watch” list in 2005 and just released their full length debut in the U.S. on Oct. 3rd.
I am impressed, their slow dreamy vocals are driven by steady beats and melodic guitars, which swept me into another world.
They mentioned some influences on their myspace, such as Brian Eno, Björk, NIN and The Cocteau Twins…But I also think Radiohead should be added to this list, if I entered Radiohead into Pandora I definetly think Home Video should come up (so Pandora, I hope you are taking notes)
It has been a trying day…I look forward to bed.
Enjoy.

Frankel, Chatterbox EP
Michael Orendy has just released his debut EP on Three Ring Records and I must say he has made quite an impression…Six of the most inventive well crafted songs I have heard on an EP in a long time. Orendy takes from influences of past and present such as Elliott Smith, Sparklehorse, Nick Drake and Jon Brion…Orendy expands to forge his own path creating experimental/indie pop/folk music that is outstanding.
Enjoy!

Blue Moments

Childs, Yui
Those moments you don’t want to breathe, can’t seem to keep still, uncomfortable.
Uninspired.
Unmotivated.
Hollow and going numb
I am just a bright ray of sunshine this evening aren’t I? Oh well it will pass, all things do.
Paúl Marrón and Guillermo Bátiz are the duo that make up Childs…I couldn’t think of music more befitting to my mood than their debut album Yui. Their music has been classified as “Electronic Lullabies” and this is really quite right on.

Also, I want to wish a Happy Birthday to the Contrast Podcast this week it is something special.

“a bunch of hyper Canadians that really love music and one day decided to make some of their own.” –The Ghost Is Dancing
Fantastic! I can’t get enough of them. Their self titled EP was released on Sept. 19th and I admitted along time ago that I am a major sucker for indie rock embellished mini-symphonies and this 8 member band does a damn good job of delivering just what I like. I look forward to their Spring full length release. :)

In other news:
A congratulations to the amazing Alexi Murdoch! Rolling Stone Magazine featured him in their Top Ten Artists to Watch list which hit news stands on Sept.21st. I of course had to pick up a copy and I am glad I did because there is a mini article that just made me smile for the last 3 days. :)
Also, Ben Kweller did a free in store at my favorite record store Fingerprints today. So since none of you were with me to hear just how awesome he sounds up close and personal I thought I would post a track from his new album and perhaps convince some to purchase the happy acoustic indie pop that he creates.

Woolly Leaves, ‘Quiet Waters’
Filed Under Album Picks | 2 Comments
I had attempted to post this last night…Unfortunately my wireless connectivity and I had a little disagreement so I gave it the silent treatment. The good news is that we reconciled our differences…
The Woolly Leaves, the solo project from Constantines keyboardist Whil Kidman. He has just released Quiet Waters through Outside Music/IODA. Unfortunately there has been little acknowledgement of just how lovely this album is. Gentle acoustics accompany Kidmans dreamy voice and it is all quite wonderful. I do recommend a listen…
I have been a bit out of sorts the last couple of days, “blah” really sums it up best.
At least we have music.

The divine voice of Justin Langlois will beg you to escape into this 4 track EP that fuses electronic beats with dreamy shoegaze melodies. A surreal experience that is just beautiful.
