Band of Horses
Filed Under Album Picks | 12 Comments
I wasn’t going to originally post about Band Of Horses but the more and more I listen to their new album I find myself just in awe and although this is not one of the lesser known albums of the year it is certainly one that deserves all the praise and then some. And I am actually going to quote Pitchfork putting aside all their stuffiness :-P (yeah I said it)
“Turning despondency into indie majesty is a major talent of Band of Horses – Stephen M. Deusner, March 20, 2006″
Well golly gee gosh that is a perfect description of their music…I couldn’t have said it better myself. And even though you will find out in a couple of days I am going to say it here so it can resonate with you. :-) “The Funeral” is definitely on my “2006 Track Picks” hands down and it has been my favorite all year since it’s release in March, I can’t get sick of their climbing guitars and Ben Bridwell belting out lyrics such as lyrics like, ” At every occasion I’ll be ready for the funeral” and such lyrics as these:
I’m shaking awful…
i’m shaking, asshole
and where’s the remote?
its gonna fall off.the snowing in cover,
do you recover from those?and christmas time coming
and over approaching
we’ve been drinking, pardon.as christmas time goes
i’m coming over
coming from
youre already gonei’m wrapping up
the presents
i bought(pretty guitar)
an overcoat
will take me anywhere
o,
we’ve suffered enough.its scary
to me,
and their leaving from earth.
cutting us off
knowing that
one
calling on
total
way.
do i know anyone
no
i dont knowanyone

And I picked up the new issue of Paste Magazine because well for one there is a Christopher Guest interview due to his recent movie For Your Consideration and because of Paste’s Music Sampler #27. The track which caught my eye was Wolves At Night by The Manchester Orchestra. And yes I know I posted about them already but I couldn’t help but mentioning them again because I think there may be only one other person in this world who could put me into a hypnotic state such as the sound of Andy Hull’s voice, and check out there myspace I am not the only girl drooling over this heart-throb. ;-) And actually mentioning this isn’t all that off topic, because his voice in sounds much like the voice of Ben Bridwell’s from Band of Horses…

Manchester Orchestra, I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child (I highly recommend purchasing their new album)
Also check out this week’s Contrast Podcast
and Rich from Cable & Tweed posted his Highlights of 2006
Ok what is your favorite track? ONE favorite 2006 track… (and no I am not going to just compile a list of all your favorites don’t worry, I don’t need to add any more choices to my already over-whelming list. But thanks! :-) So let’s here them.

Nobody & Mystic Chords of Memory

I got a sudden itch to edit the look of my blog and instead of editing the html alone I thought I would try the new beta customize template feature…
I don’t know, not really all that thrilled at the moment , but once I learn the CSS of this Blogger template I should be able to customize it a bit better…For now though I am leaving it because I am tired as hell. I will sleep on it…
It looks too Blogger/Google happy, it is like a certain style you know? And I don’t want their style; I want my own style…That is the whole point of Untitled…
Question(s):
If you run an mp3 blog why did you start? How has your blog changed and what do you enjoy most of all about the entire mp3 blog experience?
As for the readers: What sparks your interest and keeps you coming back to an mp3 blog? What do you find yourself searching for and what would you like to see more of?
And more free music is not really the answer I am looking for ;)
Went to the greatest record store EVER last night and picked up the fantastic new album, Tree Colored See by Nobody & Mystic Chords of Memory. I have had my eye on this album for quite some time…
Dreamy indie-pop layered with lush guitars and mellow beats; this 11 track album is the product of the collaboration between Estella, Chris Gunst and Jen Cohe. I had quite a predicament selecting just two tracks…The entire album is solid, from the first to the last track all the way through, hit play and repeat as desired. You will like indeed.

Acoustic Love Boduf Songs
Filed Under Album Picks | 8 Comments
I needed this…To wash off this day with some haunting acoustic melodies that seep in and take me far away…I kind of feel like no matter what I do, no matter how hard I work or how much effort, heart or will I put forth ends up not making a bit of difference…You ever get that feeling?
It is hard for me to accept failure, mistakes, errors…But what really bothers me is when you put forth so much effort and then something goes wrong that is out of your control and yet somehow all fingers are pointing at you…
*sigh*
Kranky is my new favorite label…Mat Sweet is the one behind Boduf Songs, from Southhampton England and he was immediately snatched up by Kranky after they heard the self titled demo he put together himself. This fall Lion Devours the Sun was released on Kranky…It is quite wonderful really, dark acoustic melodies matched with Sweet’s soft raspy vocals.

The Manchester Orchestra

This band hails from Georgia and their new album, I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child (September 2006) is really a solid album, it is quite surprising actually. This band seems to be unknown to those outside of Atlanta, Georgia but I think they deserve a listen. They are currently touring and have a handful of show listings on their myspace. Enjoy!

Long Awaited EP
Filed Under Album Picks | 8 Comments
Looks as if I am on a bit of singer songwriter folk kick…What can I say I just can’t seem to get enough of that damn acoustic guitar…But after a long wait, Priscilla Ahn’s EP has finally been made available online at iTunes and I guess iTunes UK is doing a special feature on her as well. Well deserved, about time she got noticed, her voice is just beautiful. I urge you to support her if you like what you hear, she is a true “Indie” artist. :) Also if you live in the Los Angeles area, she is performing at the Hotel Cafe through February. If you do happen to get curious and click that Hotel Cafe link and go to their calendar you will see something that I have been waiting for…And you probably know by now when I start getting this excited it usually has something to do with Alexi Murdoch
And I have to add what a pain in the ass it was to convert these tracks to mp3…Sheesh. It is worth it though.

I am exhausted and I am not feeling all that hot…A bit of a sore throat, I think I just need sleep…Glorious sleep. Can I just hibernate like the bears? That would be awesome. Snuggled and warm.

When you least expect it, is when you see things; like shooting stars…
Last night I was trying to upload some tracks to File Lodge, and I was uploading three at a time but to no avail. I was doing everything right…I tried 2 and that failed so then I attempted uploading one file at a time…Success.
Victory.
But I think this is something I need to work on, this constant need I have to rush things. Not the big things so much as the little everyday things. The things that effect me day in and day out…Simply taking one step at a time and not struggling in the process of getting to my desired goal.
2 beautiful dark folk songs…I am really enjoying the new Damien Jurado album, so I wanted to post another outstanding track from their recent release, And Now That I’m In Your Shadow. (Oct. 2006)
Also 1 track off the EP from Tom Thumb and the Latter Day Saints, Kindermusik (April 2006).
It has been a difficult, stressful and expensive week, draining. I am glad it has come to a close.
This one is for Rocky…
We miss you.

‘Dead Man’s Party’
Filed Under Album Picks | 6 Comments
Although I certainly didn’t listen to Oingo Boingo in 1985 (I was rocking out to Sesame Street then) But I grew up and refined my taste you could say…For me nothing says Halloween like Oingo Boingo, I love these two tracks…There are some things which will never change.
Sorry quick Halloween post for you I am afraid, end of the month deadlines and clients who have waited until the very last possible day to submit their shit are keeping me quite busy…If I die from being over-worked I will haunt them…Sweet revenge. ;)
But when your done listening to Oingo Boingo why not head over to the Contrast Podcast and see what the other Armadillos chose for this weeks Contrast Podcast #31 “Music to watch ghouls by” suggested by my favorite Armadillo FiL HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Benoît Pioulard
Filed Under Album Picks | 9 Comments
I attempted to post this while at work and just as I went to preview and publish half of it vanished into thin air. I have no idea what happened but I decided to save and come back to it when I was home.
So I am home :)
I have new music but first off, Contrast Podcast is up and awaiting a visit from you.
This weeks theme: ‘2006 So Far (Part 3)’
My contribution to this weeks CP is a song that I have not posted here and has not received a great deal of attention but Alif Tree is fantastic and you will find other wonderful unheard songs of 2006 I assure you.
Thomas Meluch is a 20 year old prodigy in my opinion. Meluch is Benoît Pioulard and he has just released Précis, a 15 track album that is a work of art. Meluch draws from everything possible and then creates music that is so unique and original but at the same time the music appeals to all. I highly recommend sampling the below tracks and I urge you to support this talented young musician.
Links now sample tracks
Benoît Pioulard, Triggering Back (mp3 expired)
Benoît Pioulard, Ash Into The Sky (mp3 expired)

Also, I am interested to know what you thought of the CP track by Alif Tree…So if you feel like it feel free to speak up or forever hold your peace.

Halogen Lights

Well not really lights but Halogen music. An Australian band that have been making music since their first release in 1999 with Into The Crash Barrier. Their latest release Sirens takes you through 12 dark pop tracks that are filled with lush melodies and heavy guitars.
And Halogen might be the only band I know that doesn’t have a freaking myspace page (Mentok). I can’t believe it!

Walking in rain
I missed the feeling of raindrops on my face…
Two tracks off the Possible Selves, self titled debut for your sampling pleasure.
Neal Williams resides in Georgia and he strikes me as a bit of an odd ball, but then again who isn’t? He can make some lovely psychedelic folk rock. :)

I have one confession…I am scared of thunder…
I know it is terribly girlie of me…
It is just a little scary, I know it means no harm, but still…
You think you know someone…But in the end you really can only know yourself.
