I know I have been missing in action and unfortunately this will continue until late tomorrow. I feel like crap and just need to get to bed for the night. Wonderful things to come. ;-)

How very nice to meet you Phantogram… If you enjoy The xx and Portishead then there is a strong possibility that you may also take a liking to Phantogram. A little hip-hop mixed with deviant synth-pop, soul and electronic loops to make this one of the stranger albums that I have listened to in a long time. The album has a handful of stand out tracks that have me replaying over and over. Here is one of my favs. Enjoy!

Sigh No More is not really that new as it has been out in the UK for awhile but I have been waiting to get this album for quite some time…  Mumford & Sons‘ debut full length album is an organic folk-rock delight. A wonderful balance of just enough dark folk lyrics blended with some great rootsy rock. The lyrics are really what pull me in though… Lyrical poetry. Beautiful.

And after the storm,
I run and run as the rains come
And I look up, I look up,
on my knees and out of luck,
I look up.

Night has always pushed up day
You must know life to see decay
But I won’t rot, I won’t rot
Not this mind and not this heart,
I won’t rot.

And I took you by the hand
And we stood tall,
And remembered our own land,
What we lived for.

And there will come a time, you’ll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

And now I cling to what I knew
I saw exactly what was true
But oh no more.
That’s why I hold,
That’s why I hold with all I have.
That’s why I hold.

I will die alone and be left there.
Well I guess I’ll just go home,
Oh God knows where.
Because death is just so full and mine so small.
Well I’m scared of what’s behind and what’s before.

And there will come a time, you’ll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

And there will come a time, you’ll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

Sigh No More 2009 uk/2010 us (Glassnote)

Holly Miranda is the lead singer of The Jealous Girlfriends (posted here) and she is coming out with a full length album on February 23rd… Normally I wait until you can actually purchase the album but I figured we are plenty close for you not to forget and I don’t know if it is even possible to forget Holly Miranda once you hear what she has to offer your ears. I just love her sensuous vocals and spacey melodies and this debut full length is filled with just that.

I am off to enjoy my weekend and I hope you do as well. Cheers! xx

The Magician’s Private Library 2010 (XL Beggars)

Off to the dentist again tomorrow. I believe this is the last round of fillings… You know I brush my teeth 2-3 times a day and I floss?  Sigh. I have come to the conclusion though that I may need to up my flossing routine to daily rather then the once or twice a week I am pulling now. Is this #103 signs I am getting older or do I just have bad teeth? My dad had bad teeth my mom has bad teeth and gums. I guess I got the better of the two?

Anyways I was trolling through eMusic while munching on a Peanut Butter Pattie Girl Scout cookie (so good they should be illegal) and I came across Angus & Julia Stone a brother sister duo hailing from Australia. Folky singer-songwriter goodness that is just delightful and worth noting.

Going to brush my teeth… Enjoy! xx

I have no pep in my step this evening… I have a pounding headache and I have been mostly nauseous all day. Just not really into it tonight unfortunately. Something quick and straight to the point then. Shout Out Louds are coming out with a new full length album later on this month entitled Work but to tide us over they released a little digital EP which shuffled on this evening and I felt like it was just perfection.

Finally I took notice… Because I will be honest I never took notice of Laura Veirs. This Portland based singer-songwriter is making waves with her 7th full length album. Yeah that’s right she has been chugging along for quite some time. I took a look back at some of her older stuff and it seems she has really come to life on July Flame. Not sure what changed, but the infusion of her love-drenched lyrics and delicate piano/guitar melodies has me feeling like I am walking barefoot in a glorious meadow with unicorns. This album is fresh and beautiful. When it plays I envision a magical forest billowing out of the speakers. Well done fair lady, well done.

Currently re-visiting the Radiohead catalog. I go through Radiohead frenzies… It is really like coming home. I have found over the years though that I tend to miss my dad more listening to some of their older stuff like The Bends and OK Computer but it is much more comforting then it is sad…

That is really it for this Sunday night… Just basking in their greatness, I know that not everyone will agree with me but I have to say Radiohead is my number one favorite band of my generation.

Hail to the Thief 2003 (Capitol)

I have been waiting for the release of this album for months and boy did it not disappoint. IRM was produced by Beck and his musical influence is perfect for this French born artist. The album is fantastic from beginning to end mixing spacey Beck melodies with Gainsbourg’s beautiful vocals creating a refreshing new sound and direction for Gainsbourg, one in which will land her on many year end lists. It may be early in the year but I am quite positive that IRM will be on my year end list hands down. Enjoy!

Wow! I woke up in the worse mood this morning. Just annoyed with every little thing that is coming at me. Watch out people, I bite! I am bummed for so many reasons… One of them being that this glorious rain we have been receiving is on its way out. I have loved every second of it and I know that saying, “all good things must come to an end” but I don’t want to hear it right now.

Radiohead is putting on a benefit concert for Haiti this Sunday in LA @ The Fonda. I wish I was in a position to bid on these tickets and help out the people of Haiti as well as see my loves. This is just not an option right now for me… Which is completely depressing but I am very pleased that Radiohead has taken time out of the studio to do their part to help this country in peril. If I could I would be there in a split second.

In other news the new Eels album was released this week…

I totally wish I was more excited for it, but unfortunately only a few songs off this 14 track album made it on to my playlist. Mark Oliver Everett the bluesy singer-songwriter is not quite at his best on his new album, but there are a few noteworthy tracks to check out so I wouldn’t ignore it completely by any means. You never know, it could always grow on me.

Hopefully this day will pick up… It’s Friday anyway so that is indeed a good thing.
