Oh man…

*sigh*

I woke up this morning and did not want to get out of bed. I was far from happy this morning. Mondays suck and I always feel like there should be one more day off for all… Just one freaking day.

I think I am bored at my job though, sick of it really. I definitely need a break though… A couple more weeks and then it is Turkey time! Four glorious days off. Sweetness.

Anyways I hope everyone accepted their Monday a little better than I, now on to the music… Aaron Thomas is really something else, stumbled on him while trolling though the pages of eMusic recently. Thomas is a singer-songwriter with a bit of a folk like flare accompanied by emotional lyrics. Although he is a bit aloof, as he only seems to have a myspace page, if I were a record label I would be all over his nuts like a squirrel looking for acorns.

Follow The Elephants 2008 (?) Possibly Everlasting Records is his record label which he claims on his myspace but they don’t have a website that is up to date, so I don’t trust it.

It is all about the music tonight… Ray LaMontagne is a bit more popular than the usual suspects here at Untitled but this singer/songwriter is a must have. Gossip In The Grain is a solid third album, Meg White is  a 60’s psychedelic rock anthem that took me by surprise, quite brilliant and not what you would expect from LaMontagne. It is an expressive beautiful album that has stopped me dead in my tracks and made me utter, “Damn”. Highly recommended.

p.s. Songs will only be available for a couple days, check out his myspace to stream samples.

Damien Jurado’s new album surprised me… It is mellow but not as dark as some of his previous work… Emotional as always though and I do enjoy the moody emotional story tellers… After all it is the emotion that makes this life all worth living… Everything Trying is just beautiful as is Paper Kite. Check out the blog I Am Caught In The Trees

p.s. My laptop is on the fritz and has been for quite some time. Pip is going to help me wipe it this weekend… I’m scared. hehe

This has been released for awhile… But I kind of have some catching up to do… This album is quite befitting to my mood, which comes as no surprise. I can praise Okkervil River all day and all night, they are fantastic. Although, I can’t say I love this album from beginning to end but there are certainly about 4-5 songs that can seriously be considered for a spot on a favorite tracks list. Part of Okkervil’s appeal for me is their amazing songwriting ability and their impeccable gift to make great music. Enjoy!

mp3: Calling And Not Calling My Ex

Calling And Not Calling My Ex

She was once mine
That smile that shines from the glossy magazine that stuck inside the Sunday Times
She was so sweet on Christmas Eve
With the snow set deep, when we went walking through the pines
I had just been fired and her first offer had arrived
And the new year would see her flying far away from me
Though I didn’t know it at the time

With outstretched hands
Now she commands
A famous figure for every picture
And she stands up strong and she demands
And they deliver
Yeah, she’s a fixture

And it’s a mixture of dumb jealousy and fear that I might feel, should she appear
Just like it hasn’t been three years
And there’s a distance to her voice over the phone and that’s because she stands alone
While I’m still sitting here

Girl, you see me here on another quiet night
I will wait until another indistinguishable day arrives
I’ll decide where the light’s even and bright
Where my life’s sweet as it’s slightly, disappointedly, just gliding softly by

And you won’t wait for me in some secluded stand of trees some Christmas Eve some god was kind enough to set aside
Although I’d love you to, I’m proud of you
God knows I’m feeling really stupid now
For having ever said goodbye

During the fight
I said, “Yeah right”
When you insisted that I visit, that you’d write
Now, I know you’re working hard so I never hear from you, and that’s fine
You look the same on TV as when you were mine
I walk in from the kitchen and I finger the remote control
I watch you from the distance, you go walking through the terminal
I remember ever instance, when you stung me
Oh, you’re so lovely
Oh, you’re so smart

So, go turn their heads, go knock them dead, go break their hearts
Go break their hearts
Baby, break their hearts
And I know you will

Jeff Hanson is mistaken for a female singer songwriter all the time, but believe it or not that is Jeff Hanson singing those beautiful melodies. It is quite different I must say, a little hard to get over… Is it just me? Does anyone else have a hard time listening to these beautiful melodies that sound as if they are being sung by a female vocalist but indeed it is male?

Regardless, the music is indeed beautiful… Hopefully it will be easier for you to get over then it has been for me… I am still tripping a bit over here.

This new Ratatat album is just a fantastic summer album and since the summer is winding down I thought I must post about it before it is too late. An unexpected fun and enjoyable electronic album.

I am a little cranky this evening as I have had a headache for the last two days… So I will let the music speak for itself tonight and I will be around a bit more this week ;-) I hope Ratatat brightens up your day.

And I am so, so lazy…Quiet and contemplative… All I want to do is just put on some music and bring out a good book or the last issue of Paste Magazine and chill.

Brendan Canning shows us that he can hold his own with a groovy well composed solo album much like his other band mates have done. A respectable solo debut that contains a few stand out tracks that have made it onto the iPod for some shuffle love. Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend. I am sharing two of the more mellow tracks on the album that are befitting for my mood, but he does get funky don’t you worry. ;-)

This past week has been insane… Now, all of a sudden, it is Monday. I do apologize for my unplanned absence everyone but sometimes stuff just falls from the sky.  Plus work always keeps me working overtime, which is good because I get paid for that. ;-)

The Pomegranates help as I reflect on a week filled with long nights at work and big news from friends moving to New York for a new job opportunity… It was nice to unwind with those friends at a John Mayer concert this Sunday. More on that later… For now let me introduce the Pomegranates who hail from Cincinnati, Ohio. I found them while perusing some new selections on emusic and I instantly fell in love. They create a mighty fine blend of experimental rock with a sugar coating of pop just to make it a little sweeter and it works. They still have a little bit of smoothing out of some of those rough edges, but that will come soon enough… They have only been a band for a little over a year. Their first full length album, Everything is Alive is refreshing. Thought it would be a good idea for you all to check out their 2007 EP, Two Eyes as well. Enjoy!

Friday was my birthday… So yeah happy birthday to me! I kind of feel a bit old… Normally I embrace my birthday with open arms being an only child and all I kind of make it a big deal… But this year I have realized I am a bit scared of getting older. I still had a marvelous weekend though… Great food, great laughs and good times with friends and family… It was fabulous. ;-)

I thought it would be a perfect time to mention the ethereal Sigur Ros and their new album, Med Sud I EyrumVid Spilum Endalaust , which translates to “with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly”. Their new album seems to be much more relatable, a bit more down to earth and fundamental then their passed albums, which all seemed to be fueled by abstract post-rock. This album is colorful, uplifting, expressive and beautiful. Highly recommended. (That is two in a row I might add)

Where to start? I feel like I have grown up with Beck in a way… Like we went to High School together. There has been such a progression in his music over the years it is inspiring. Beck manages to capture an entire era in any one of his songs. His music evolves and he recreates his sound according to the times and very few can accomplish this. Modern Guilt does not disappoint, it is sophisticated, funky and smart. Highly recommended.
