Matthew Mayfield

Hello world! Something romantic and beautiful this Friday morning to take you into the weekend. Matthew Mayfield is a singer songwriter from Birmingham, AL and he creates delightfully sweet acoustic guitar driven songs. This song comes from his 2008 EP, The Fire. His new album comes out next week, Five Chances Remain Hers.

Sorry for the ever so quick post but I am off to get ready for work now, enjoy!

Really quick post tonight and I kind of have a lame excuse as well… I got a Wii for my B-day (yes I feel old by the way) so I want to play it. I grew up playing Nintendo, I can’t resist.

But I do have some awesome new music from a young band who hails from Glasgow Scotland, we all know how much I adore the Scottish lads. I have really fallen in love with their soaring guitar driven indie rock and of course Adam Thompson’s vocals are so very yummy.

St. Vincent

Quick post today… I have been listening to St. Vincent’s new album Actor for a little while now, it was released back in May and has received some rave reviews. It is a wonderful yet eerie delight, but some of the songs just didn’t jive with me, a few gems made it on to the ipod.

Bowerbirds

I love getting lost in my headphones… It is hard to explain but I find it so calming… Just to lie back, close my eyes and listen to the music.  One of life’s greatest pleasures. What I am enjoying right now…

Ane Brun Changing of the Seasons

Random I know… But I was watching SYTYCD a couple of weeks back and a couple did a dance to Koop featuring Ane Brun off the 2007 Koop Island album. I hadn’t really listened to her since I checked out her album A Temporary Drive in 2006… Needless to say I wasn’t entirely won over so I passed by her 2008 album Changing of the Seasons. Note to self: Her first album Spending Time with Morgan is an album I must add to my search list for used albums.

Changing of the Seasons is a dark and heart breaking album, which I adore… Brun creates a wonderful collection of cloudy, beautiful poetic ballads that are just haunting.

The Jealous Girlfriends

I have laid around like a dead fish for the latter part of the day. I am so lazy and tired because I have been doing nothing for the last 5 hours, hey I have to prepare for the upcoming work week right? So in the spirit of well… nothing… I have decided to close my eyes and press play. Enjoy your Sunday night.

Stars, In Our Bedroom After The War
I keep coming back to this album as if it is home, it certainly feels like home. I love Stars but this album especially has always been there for me. Like today… It shuffled on and brought a smile to my face. Play it loud!

Weightless

I have been having some computer issues, I think this laptop is starting to take a turn for the worse. Which is not really a surprise as I think it is just about 6 years old, that is like 95 in human years! Anyways… This was my post from yesterday, edited just a tad. :-)

I love the way Katie Herzig belts these words… “I’m not even close to where I want to be”. I know this feeling so well it gets to be overwhelming at times… At one point I thought I would have kids by 30, I am almost 28 and not even married. But you know I look around at old friends from high school and some of them are married and already have kids and I know right now that is totally not where I want to be… I am not ready for kids, I still have so much I want to see and do. I want to travel, get my scuba license, adopt my own rescue dog and maybe even go to grad school.

I can relate to this song so well though and I love her for it, I love the emotion she puts into her music, the way in which she expresses so much passion in each and every one of her songs. She was recently featured on the Season Finale of Grey’s Anatomy with Matthew Perryman Jones, also highly recommended.

p.s. Check out the interview with Sam Mendes where he talks about the film Away We Go and how the movie is primarily about 2 people who are just getting their shit together in their thirties. Ain’t It Cool
