I Smile For Alexi Murdoch

The best part of this awful day was seeing Alexi Murdoch on Carson Daly (of all places, I can’t stand Carson) But to see Alexi, to hear him perform, I would sit through anything.
Alexi stood with a microphone and his acoustic guitar as he performed All Of My Days off his new album Time Without Consequence. He seemed a little timid, a little uncomfortable (shall I say out of place even)
But still as usual he is amazing, his music is so meticulously crafted. Each song is a work of art. The lyrics, the voice, the notes and the emotion put into each song is just inspiring.
If you haven’t purchased his new album you should or look to see when he may be playing near you.
For those in the Los Angeles area, he will be doing a free in store on December 28th at Sea Level Records
If I find out any other shows I will post it here…
But until then I thought I would share a live recording of a performance from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on Friday, July 7.
Track List:
“Home”
“All My Days”
“Breathe”
“Song for You”
“At Your Door”
“Orange Sky”
“Dream About Flying”
“Untitled”

Blue Moments

Childs, Yui
Those moments you don’t want to breathe, can’t seem to keep still, uncomfortable.
Uninspired.
Unmotivated.
Hollow and going numb
I am just a bright ray of sunshine this evening aren’t I? Oh well it will pass, all things do.
Paúl Marrón and Guillermo Bátiz are the duo that make up Childs…I couldn’t think of music more befitting to my mood than their debut album Yui. Their music has been classified as “Electronic Lullabies” and this is really quite right on.

Also, I want to wish a Happy Birthday to the Contrast Podcast this week it is something special.
This weekend I saw Little Miss Sunshine, I highly recommend seeing it.

The Ghost is Dancing

“a bunch of hyper Canadians that really love music and one day decided to make some of their own.” –The Ghost Is Dancing
Fantastic! I can’t get enough of them. Their self titled EP was released on Sept. 19th and I admitted along time ago that I am a major sucker for indie rock embellished mini-symphonies and this 8 member band does a damn good job of delivering just what I like. I look forward to their Spring full length release. :)

In other news:
A congratulations to the amazing Alexi Murdoch! Rolling Stone Magazine featured him in their Top Ten Artists to Watch list which hit news stands on Sept.21st. I of course had to pick up a copy and I am glad I did because there is a mini article that just made me smile for the last 3 days. :)
Also, Ben Kweller did a free in store at my favorite record store Fingerprints today. So since none of you were with me to hear just how awesome he sounds up close and personal I thought I would post a track from his new album and perhaps convince some to purchase the happy acoustic indie pop that he creates.

Woolly Leaves, ‘Quiet Waters’
Filed Under Album Picks | 2 Comments
I had attempted to post this last night…Unfortunately my wireless connectivity and I had a little disagreement so I gave it the silent treatment. The good news is that we reconciled our differences…
The Woolly Leaves, the solo project from Constantines keyboardist Whil Kidman. He has just released Quiet Waters through Outside Music/IODA. Unfortunately there has been little acknowledgement of just how lovely this album is. Gentle acoustics accompany Kidmans dreamy voice and it is all quite wonderful. I do recommend a listen…
I have been a bit out of sorts the last couple of days, “blah” really sums it up best.
At least we have music.

There is a great deal of new music I want to share with you…So to quote a friend, “Let’s fuck this goat.”
The London Apartments have just released Logistics & Navigation on Beggars Banquet
The divine voice of Justin Langlois will beg you to escape into this 4 track EP that fuses electronic beats with dreamy shoegaze melodies. A surreal experience that is just beautiful.

3 Tracks For My Absence
Filed Under Music Mix Up | 3 Comments
It has been awhile…Well for me anyways. I do apologize, I have had many things dancing circles in my head and it has made me quite dizzy. Decisions are scary (coxon)
I am incredibly indecisive at times…Well alright most of the time, in fact I didn’t submit to this weeks Contrast Podcast because I just simply couldn’t make up my mind. How awful is that? I think it is pretty pathetic. What am I afraid of? Am I going to make a decision and is that decision going to then in turn cause me to spontaneously combust? I think it is unlikely.
But then there are those scary decisions…Those life changing ones…
And these are also the times when I miss my dad the most…
Three tracks I came across these past few days…And I think that Sol Seppy (I doubled checked this time Charlie) will be officially added to my 2006 Album Cue over there to your right after it fades from this main page that is…
Ok I am simply worn out…Do enjoy and I encourage a visit to all the links within the above babble. :) Now the music…

Cloak of Invisibility

The Very Hush Hush, Mourir C’est Facile (2005)
Yeah that would be nice right now…To just be invisible or make everything else invisible…But alas just like teleporting neither has really been a part of this world’s reality. So I put my headphones on and turn it up so I can hear nothing else but the music…And yes I know this wasn’t released this year…
Disconnect from everything.

Challenge Club
Filed Under Album Picks | 1 Comment
So I was all set to finish up the “Rachel Rock Part II Mix” when I was distracted by the music of Challenge Club. Fairly a new band consisting of, George French, Billy Gordon, Steve Hefter, Pat Hughes, Chris Laun and Phil Turner; Six guys from Baltimore who will certainly grab your attention. I look forward to hearing more from them, but first I will continue to enjoy their most recent release, Briefe Description of the Notorious Life of Challenge Club (quite a long title indeed)
On another note…I have been suffocating in this Southern California heat…I was done with summer way back in June so you can imagine how over done I am now that it is September. Why can’t I live on a Glacier? Oh right because we are melting all of them!!!
