In A Different Time

Jesse Marchant is a Montreal born musician who puts together some of the most beautiful guitar driven arrangements that are meticulous and so well thought out. He is the kind of song-writer that will put his everything into an album and then need to take a break for awhile to digest all the emotion that went into creating these songs. This first full length album is honest and absolutely wonderful.

Save Yourself

There is something about Sharon Van Etten that is just perfection. Her angelic yet raspy vocals? Her poetic lyrics? The sorrow and raw emotion you feel in every song? It is all of it. She is all of it. SVE will be at The Hollywood Bowl with The National on September 11th and I would cut a bitch for some tickets, of course I would bandage the cut after to show no hard feelings and then be on my merry way.

If Time Was For Wasting

Yesterday started out with a mauled dead cat from a coyote on the lawn (not mine), traffic and ended 12 hours later when I finally got home from the office. Yuck!
Today is shaping up to be a much better day to say the least. My last weekend of the summer is beginning and I am planning to enjoy it to the fullest. Beach, drinks and the long awaited release of the new Untitled Records design. Finally making it official in hopes this will get my ass in gear to put in the work to release it this weekend.
In the mean time I have been listening to calming, relaxing folk. Allowing the summer breeze to blow through my hair and the music to fill my ears. It is a beautiful thing.

Once I Had A Dream

For the record I am 4 beers deep and so tired that I may be writing this in my sleep… I may be drunk/sleep blogging… Just kidding. I am really quite tired though.
I recently came across James Vincent McMorrow and his music literally made me stop everything I was doing so that I could find out more about this amazing music that I just heard. This Irish singer-songwriter is a mix of Bon Iver meets Iron & Wine with a bit of Ray LaMontagne mixed in for flavor. McMorrow creates his own unique music, with lyricism and layers of melodies that will grow on you like wild fire. If I would have heard this album in 2010 Early In The Morning would have been a serious contender for my end of the year list. He is real, honest, creative and he has created a stunning debut album.

The Phoenix Foundation

This song is something fabulous. The Phoenix Foundation is an indie rock band with a heavy alt-pop influence. These lads hail from Wellington, New Zealand, and their new album Buffalo is getting some well deserved attention.

I just came back from having $2 margaritas. A bit tipsy… And full disclosure, this may or may not qualify as drunk blog posting… Cheers!
I have no idea where I came across Sea of Bees… I like it. Julie Ann Bee creates some original, enjoyable pop-rock with a splash of folk, she has my full attention. She came out of nowhere in 2010 with her first full length album, Songs for the Ravens. I can definitely say she is someone to keep our eye on in the years to come.

I Know A Color Blue

I have been meaning to post about Agnes Obel for quite some time, but I just couldn’t find the right time until now. Her beautiful somber melodies are just what I wanted to hear tonight. Philharmonics is only available in Europe or through iTunes, I highly recommend it.
Voices in the street, footsteps on the concrete
Guess I hear just every sound on the ground
From my window view, I know a color blue
that can bite so very hard, the day apart
Picture fresh as water clear
days have passed without you here
Street lights dancing on the dark across the park
Waiting for a word from you, waiting for a sign or two
Footsteps on the city ground, you know the sound
Brother Sparrow, come tomorrow to my window

Cross My Heart And Hope To…

I have made absolutely zero progress on completing my year end list this weekend. I had such high aspirations too… Just could not get motivated at all, I am a little disappointed with myself but I always do seem to work best under pressure.
Not really sure why I am just getting around to posting this song, one of the benefits of going back through the music collection I suppose.
