But this time it’s personal. Not only is it a song that has yet to be released but we don’t even know if there is a full length version recorded! Back a couple of weeks ago a Lincoln Car Commercial came on and who was singing? Cat Power. What was she singing? “Space Oddity” by David Bowie. I think one of the Ford Marketing team members is a blogger…

And I don’t mean to mention something old but when the Olympics were on guess what one of their inspirational athlete story pieces was serenaded by? Band Of Horses, “The Funereal”. Also, I was in a Gap a couple of months back and Band Of Horses was playing in there as well. The song is genius and they took it and beat it to death with sticks and stones… I just want to scream, “They have other amazing songs you nit wits!” Seriously… I have heard it so much it has lost some of it’s original appeal. It is sad but true.

Of course I am making a bigger deal out of this for shits and giggles but there is some truth here… I do feel like music is sacred and I am happy that they are getting paid the big bucks to do these commercials and get this publicity. I also think the commercials and Olympics could credit the artist’s who are giving them their art, their music. But instead I see none of that, they don’t credit them at all and that my friends is what pisses me off. Alright, I will get off my soap box now… hehe

Yeah I really wish they would give artist credit, but I’m sure they pay extra to make sure they don’t have to.

I understand your point about the sanctity of the art form, but if they waved a couple ten grand at me I’d say ok too :P

LOL yeah Band Of Horses but they have Cat Power now as well!!!
I am feeling better thank goodness!!! :-)

Pip, I don’t have a problem with them making money either it just feels like they are taking some of these songs and over playing them everywhere and not given the public the opportunity to explore the artist. You know? ;-)

ok i can see what you are saying with the beating of the dead horse. over and over. i can see that. they see one person use this song then think its the best song ever-its like music on photographer websites. if i have to hear freaking colbie calliet (or whatever her name is) singing that “and i wrinkly my nose…” song in another place i. will. kill. someone. most. likely. one. of. my. small. children. as. they. are. what. is. most. easily. in. reach. and. i. dont. want. to. do. that.

Oh totally! Yeah she opened for John Mayer, which I would have never had went if I hadn’t received free tickets… She was annoying with her hat and lame musicality.

i realize i’m a little late here, but no matter. i just heard a bastardization, for lack of a better word, of a couple of andrew bird songs in marriott commercials.

at first i was like, hey, i know that song, but then it kind of morphs away from the tune, but it’s undeniably his songs.

and i know he has to make a living and that he has every right to sell his music any way he sees fit, but in this case they don’t even use the entire song–well, they usually don’t do that, i guess, but they don’t even keep it wholly his. it’s hard to explain, but if you hear it you’ll know what i mean. sigh.
