There is something about the Los Angeles band Warpaint that I am drawn to… Maybe it is their creative unpredictability? Just when you think the song is taking one direction, suddenly they incorporate another musical layer to the mix. It is this, along with the lovely melodic vocals of Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman and Jenny Lee Lindberg, that attracts me. There are a few stand out tracks on the debut full length album, Undertow, Shadows and Majesty were by far my favorites. Definitely a band to keep your eye on… It will be interesting to see how their sound will grow, as it sounds promising.

Many Moons

I recently came across the music of Lia Ices and fell head over heels in love with her sultry, passionate melodies. The debut album Necima was released in 2008 and it is stunning. Her new album Grown Unknown is set to be released in January and I can hardly wait.
Few words tonight… I think it is best to let the music speak for itself. xX

Oh How They Sparkle

The new album from Blonde Redhead is their best album to date. A melancholy slow-moving waltz that is both a delicate and atmospheric melody combined with a heavy sensual drone. This is a welcome progression from their dreamy-pop on their previous album 23.

I’m The Animal

I have been in a far off place all weekend. Quiet and contemplative and a little sad. I have been enjoying the cloudy, cold weather though. There is nothing better then putting on some music and hanging out at home during cold gloomy weather.
Listening to a lot of great music lately old and new, just haven’t had much time to share … I have fallen in love with this song from Richard Walters. Beautiful.

Salt In The Wound

Two words: Catalytic Converter. With those two words I suddenly find myself $900 in the hole. I love my car, I have 2004 VW Golf. It is the perfect car for me. We have been through a lot of miles together, she has always been there for me and she is so cute. l had a mental breakdown when told that I have to get a new catalytic converter. I got angry. Anger because everything is so unknown, I don’t understand the world of cars and how to fix them and that is scary. That is life though…It is uncertain and unpredictable and we have to roll with the punches… The question is: am I still rolling with the punches when I am writing a check and balling my eyes out?
Delta Spirit is a local band, they originated from San Diego, CA and currently reside in my hometown of Long Beach. Right there they get bonus points. Their sophomore full length album seems more focused. Their mix of Americana and soul-pop has been refined. This might be my favorite song from the album.

Pull The Past Behind You

“Pull the past behind you” and lets cruise into the weekend together while listening to the new album from Land of Talk. Cloak and Cipher is the follow up album to their 2008 debut and was pieced together while Elizabeth Powell was recovering from a hemorrhaged polyp and silenced not to speak for 6 months. She recovered triumphantly and released a great sophomore album.

Backed Into The Corner

“Backed into a corner”… Exactly how I feel. Stressed and pulled into so many different directions. Feelings of sadness and anger are sometimes so overwhelming. Work, family, commute, decisions, money are wearing me thin.
I want to be stronger, I want more control and most of all I want to learn to be happy and to let the little shit go. This is a constant struggle for me. I need to work more on myself, like I used to. I think a part of me is scared of what I may find… Scared of how far I have come and how much work it is going to take to get me back where I want to be.
A personal post tonight accompanied with a sample of Backed Into The Corner, an amazing single from Amy Stroup. Highly recommended, so much so that I am recommending that you purchase it.

You can say Fistful of Mercy can be defined as a super group… The band is compiled of Joseph Arthur, Ben Harper and Dhani Harrison (George Harrison’s son). They create a mix of singer-songwriter melodies infused with a bluesy folk rock. I am digging their debut album and I think you will as well. Enjoy. xX

We Were Meant To See

The weather outside today was perfection. Cloudy, cold and just a light drizzle. Bliss.
Just the right weather for a little S. Carey, he recently took some time from drumming for Bon Iver to make his debut album, All We Grow. He has some beautiful folk melodies on this debut.
