Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like a little BDSM!
Secretary is really just a superb film, it is surprising actually. Directed by Steven Shainberg who I personally have never heard of nor have I seen any other films in which he directed but bravo to him for this film. Secretary also introduced me to the work of Erin Cressida Wilson who wrote the screenplay and Mary Gaitskill who wrote the short story, but regardless of the unknown this film was so well done and I applaud all who had a hand in creating it.

I am sure some were probably hesitant to see this movie because of the sadomasochistic plot but I think as long as you are not my grandma (who actually did see this film not knowing the plot outline and being the miserable closed minded person she is you can only guess what she thought of it) I recommend giving it a whirl, I think you may just be pleasantly surprised unless of course you are a miserable, bitter and closed minded person then you may not like it so much.

Leonard Cohen’s sultry I’m Your Man accompanies Gyllenhaal’s character as she crawls on her hands and knees towards her boss’s office, and with that this makes Secretary my official All Time Favorite #11 on this mushy love blah blah blah day. ;-)

Ah yes… what an opening shot, too. Interestingly enough, I totally missed this film until WAY late, but Rach here said “see it or die”… or well something along those lines, so I had to see it or else I was going to die.

How in the hell did you see this with your grandmother for crissakes?? Sheesh, that’s asking for it!

i haven’t seen such grandma-bashing since lily allen trashed her nan! :-D

my buddy swears by this movie, mostly because of maggie gyllenhaal i think. i’ve been wanting to check it out for a while, but knowing now that mr. leonard cohen kicks the movie off, that pretty much seals the deal

To clear up any confusion I did not see this movie with my grandma, but just heard about how she went to see it…My mom and I had a good chuckle. :)

Tad you do not know my grandma…hehe
;-) And yeah you should really see this film, I am stilled amazed you have not seen it sooner. And I have to correct a mistake because Cohen actually doesn’t kick off the movie but comes in towards the middle. (Watched last night again and realized my error) :)

Ah, Lenny C, a fine, talented, if rather lugubrious, Canadian. My heart swells with pride for my adopted country… ;)

Maggie Gyllenhaal completes this film. The most natural screen presence of today’s young actors.

Having already seen it, I told my girlfriend we should watch it when it cam on tv. We watched the first hour. She started thinking I was a pervert. We stopped watching. She refuses to watch it again. Then again her taste in music is, to say the least, dodgy.

Also while I like Secretary, it’s not as good as I think it is. If that makes sense. Probably not.

    Doh!

Obviously I meant to say ‘taste in films’.

    How foolish.
