Remember the Media Player update that took a decade to install? The next day I start up my PC and open up my iTunes, which is another program that I think the planet could do without but I digress…
iTunes starts and immediately opens a little pop-up window alerting to a problem with my sound device, so I think iTunes is just being it’s usual self so I go to repair it/update/install whatever but it still doesn’t work. I go into the sound section on XP and I open up the properties and this huge error message comes up telling me something is broken somewhere with some name and then immediately closes. WTF? I am thinking what have I done between now and last night besides sleep? Then I remember the decade long update of Media Player that I did…Well I am not really a happy person without my sound, not being able to listen to music is basically not an option for me so after some advice from computer guru drainpip I went and ran the little restore point thing to the previous day before the Media Player update and what do you know my sound works wonderfully and Rachel is happy again YEAH!

I still don’t have the updated Windows Media Player but you know I don’t really care, I suppose I will care when I need to care, but until then I am keeping the old player…So there Microsoft! *sticks out tongue*

I am not the only one who has recently experienced some PC related hassles, check out Mentok’s hilarious post about his grand pain in the ass experience with Symantec here.

Also, Fuck EZ Archive!
I am sorry that was the last time I promise, but FileLodge is still down and looks as if this may be a permanent thing, FileDen was down today too…So that is why I just had to say it one last time. :)

So for all the software/program/hosting and computer issues and also because they have a Live EP release coming up, here are a couple songs off Yo La Tango’s oh so appropriately titled 2006 album, I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass:

I Should Have Known Better (mp3 expired)

Pass the Hatchet, I Think I’m Goodkind (mp3 expired)

I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass [Get it]

Look for Yo La Tango’s Live iTunes exclusive EP this Tuesday, January 9th.

you know, we had a similar experience with that update of media player. it overtook everything, told me itunes was no longer my default or something, and i think the sound disappeared, too. so yes, we (i say we, it’s really my husband) took it off.

i don’t know if this happens to anyone else, but sometimes when i come to your blog, it takes forever to load–seems to have something to do with the hype machine, as sometimes it says “waiting for hype machine” down at the bottom of my screen.

anyway, i suppose i shouldn’t complain too much, as even with all the quirks and problems, i still get a lot of pleasure out of all these technological things. : )

Yeah you are not the first to comment on the slow to load Untitled. Yes, it is the hype badge and at one point I took the badge down and just put up a little button but I don’t know I like the badge better…Maybe I will have to go back to the button.

I think hype was having some server overload issues earlier so that was probably part of it.

*sigh* All of these broken links, slow loading pages, updates that suck and hosting issues are really starting to get me down.

i know what you mean. it seems like a lot has gone wrong lately. i’m still realizing how much music i lost when my harddrive died a couple of months ago. every once in a while i go to look for something and it’s not there and it drives me crazy!

then, if you go to try to replace it, so many of folks’ old links don’t work because they were ezarchive, and that’s a drag, too.

i guess we just have to keep on slogging. what else can we do? i don’t want to give it up, that’s for sure! : )

Give it up? Hell no, I’m just getting started. ;-)

But yeah I hope you back up your hard drive now…Right?

*cough* Of course I am not really one to talk…I should really go get an external hardrive tomorrow maybe I should go right now. Seriously though.

i bought a SWEET 160 gig external a bit ago but i forgot to format it before i started using it…after i had loaded about 20 gigs on it then it says that i have to format. lost all 20 gigs of work. dont make my mistake!

and i posted tonight JUST FOR YOU rachel!

windows media player i can agree with, but what don’t you like about iTunes? granted, Apple has made some questionable updates to it recently that have made it a little cumbersome, but i still can’t imagine living without it

  7. Rachel on January 8th, 2007 1:46 am

    Matthew, I will remember that indeed ;-) 20 gigs what a pain…

Tad, I use iTunes and I am used to it, it is like the lesser of two evils. And I can’t really say what it is I am looking for but they all just seem to be so obnoxious and overbearing. But I mean whatever for digital it is great…I don’t know ever since Marcy got that turntable all I am thinking is, “hmmmm vinyl” :-)

Thanks for flogging my Symantec story!

I’ve come to the conclusion that what’s best is to get a new hard drive every year or so and invest the time in a fresh install of everything.

This not only gets rid of the computer’s performance-wrecking baggage, it also grants the human component a chance for renewal and assessment.

“Do I really need to install that program again? Do I really need to bother digging up the password for this website?” … stuff like that.
