Steve Zissou: You really think it’s cool for you to hit the sauce with a bun in the oven?

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)

Directed by Wes Anderson and written by both Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach (two of my favorite film makers ) this is a fantastic film and although a bit messy in some parts Bill Murray seems to help hold it down.

But the primary reason for this All Time Favorite feature is of course the music, and Life Aquatic being a Wes Anderson film you know it has an amazing soundtrack. Selecting just one song from any of Wes Anderson’s original motion picture soundtracks is not an easy task and although my pick for All Time Favorite #7 is not included on the soundtrack CD it is part of the original score and it is an amazing song.

ah yes… this one was a lot like Royal Tennenbaums for me in that it grew on me. I remember being shocked and distressed in the uncharted waters that are a Wes Anderson pic… but each time I saw it previous I loved it more… like logarithmically. The part where this song plays is quite poignant and it suits the film well… odd yet strangely appealing.

I’m just gonna say that “Search and Destroy” kicks my ass every time. Whether or not Bill Murray is running around capping pirates.

Agree. Amazing song. I think Cameron Crowe had agreat quote about the way that the music of Sigur Ros just takes you to places (in your head, your heart) that no other band can. If I ever find that quote I’ll send it to you. I think it was on a promo poster for a SR single or album?

(oh, great film as well – made me laugh at least 3 times, possibly 4 times – something of a record for me! the only film that makes me laugh all the time is Dodgeball… i know, really dumb etc. but just so stupidly funny)

And Happy New Year Rach. I hope 2007 is good to you in lots of ways.

I went into this movie thinking I was going to hate it, but it ended up being one of my favorites.

Another great soundtrack pick. Like the Yann Tiersen tune from Amelie, this is one of those pieces of music that recreates the sensation of floating in a hot bath.
