Feeling Blue

That there
That’s not me
I go
Where I please
I walk through walls
I float down the Liffey
I’m not here
This isn’t happening
I’m not here
I’m not here
Radiohead, How To Disappear Completely

This song…Might just be the greatest song of all time.

This day was terrible…Everything is broken, nothing works and I am simply blue.

Quite sad really…

This past weekend I went with my mom to a retreat…I am not really one to retreat places where there are groups let alone groups of women. But I went for my mom because she asked me to go with her. We ended up going in separate cars…because well I am a workaholic and drive faster than she cares to drive. She left Friday, I left Saturday morning at dawn. It came to my attention the day before that I need new brakes…

I am doomed for all eternity to have car problems obviously. Oh and did I mention I was an idiot and drove in the carpool lane (2+ Persons) on the way to work one morning although I was by myself and therefor got myself a hefty fine that is more than I care to admit.

So I drove sleepy to a Seminary in Santa Barbara that was out in the middle of nowhere. I was planning on spending the night but quite honestly I felt very uncomfortable, the seminary well was a seminary and gave me the heebie jeebies plus I simply don’t work well with others so the whole group setting was making me very antsy so I drove home that same night. I was happy it was just me and my ipod for 3 hours.
I got to spend some time with my mom which is always a good thing…I also came to some realizations that weren’t so easy to take…

I am still in a lot of pain…And I have been hiding it away for quite some time that I have begun to resent myself, it is all not very healthy; but of course that is obvious…Anyways I am just babbling at this point.

I had originally planned to post 3 songs but since filelodge seems to have something against me this evening I am only able to post this one. An amazing song though, which is worthy of the spotlight.

Fucking EZ though…They really fucked us. Cheers!

Hey, I requested that you put up more words and you did!

Well, it’s a good thing you are getting used to following my instructions, because it’s time once again for…

    Mentok the Emotional Drill Sargeant

What’s this? Radiohead … the official band of emo crybabies feeling sorry for themselves.

No thanks. Bring back the Oingo Boingo.

Shape up soldier. Drop and give me fifty. You say you’re in pain. Well, I’ll give you something to be in pain about. Hup two, hup two, hup two.

Now cheer up, dammit, or I’ll kick yer ass some more. ;-)

(I figure I can use this routine about six more times before it loses its ironic cheering-up effectiveness.)

Feel better. You’ll always have us blog friends to feel warm and fuzzy about, eh?

  2. mjrc on November 2nd, 2006 9:11 am

so much for the empathetic route, eh mentok? ;-)

i think sometimes a person just needs to let it out and be heard. keeping it in doesn’t make it go away, it only forces it somewhere else and then it rears its ugly head some other way.

so i’m just here to say i hear you, sister, loud and clear. : )

Given my own current disposition (a recent graduate with First Class Honours in Sadness Studies) I’d opt for the MJRC approach. Let it out. Be heard. Be sad. It will pass as people care about you and will show you the way out. Come and sit beside me if you like, we can talk and drink coffee and be sad together. Broken things can be fixed. Know that I’m thinking of you (and keep taking the Radiohead injections, twice a day, everyday…).

No, I’m not a specialist in the empathetic approach, for sure…but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel empathy.

Certainly there’s something to be said for venting. There’s also something to be said for ‘laughter is the best medicine’. There’s also also something to be said for just shaking it off.

I’m certainly not advocating keeping the blues bottled up. But, unless you are a musician, I also don’t advocate singing the blues as a lifestyle. I’ve been there many times and all it ever ends up being is a destructive addiction.

OK, that was my Dr. Phil impression. Any other requests while I have my impersonation machine revved up? ;-)

  5. Tim Young on November 2nd, 2006 10:18 am

Tim has just left a message on GerardvsBear and is still referring to Tim in the 3rd person (sorry for this in advance). Tim has discovered that his diet effects his happiness. What has Rachel been eating? Tim thinks Rachel has has either not enough or too much chocolate. Tim also thinks that Rachel should avoid the following foods which make Tim grumpy or naughty in varying degrees:

    1. Custard (Very Naughty)

    2. Gin (Super Sad)

    3. Marshmallows (Sad and Naughty)

Rachel’s food might be different but if Rachel finds out what they are Rachel should let us know.

Beside this useless advice Tim is sending Rachel a virtual hug .. which sometimes helps.

Tim thinks he would like to hear Mentok’s impression of Thom Yorke.

    :)

OK, just ‘cuz you asked for it, O Tim….

    Marshmallow trees
    Sing quietly
    The sadness grows
    Upon its boughs

    Now I’ll sing loud!
    Yeah, I’ll sing loud!
    Because I’m sad.
    My throat is bad.

There, how was that for a Thom Yorke impression?

  7. mjrc on November 2nd, 2006 12:13 pm

well, i feel a bit better, don’t know about rachel, though!

you guys are all really something else. and i mean that in a really good way. : )

It is good to know you are loved, seriously thank you.

You all got me smiling and that is priceless (now I sound like a Hallmark card)

Mentok, you are drilling a drill sergeant. ;) Thanks for the tough love and your impersonations made me giggle.

mjrc, it is good to have your support and friendship, especially around these guys. ;) (kidding)

W.A.Fading, votre commentaire a rempli mon coeur avec joie. Et je prendrai ma prescription.

Tim, you are wise. It might be all the sugar I nibbled on yesterday and the day before. Thanks for making me smile and especially for the hug.

    Hello.

    Long time no see.

And how apt that on my return, you post not just a Radiohead song, but one of my favourite Radiohead songs.

It’s almost like you knew I was on my way.

Richard hopes all is good in your world today and sends miles of smiles your way.

    Whoops – 3rd person!!

Word Verifictaion – oxxxik. I like that!

  10. FiL on November 2nd, 2006 3:52 pm

Well, looks like I’m late to the party, but it seems my services are not required, as y’all have done a lovely job of perking up Dearest Rachel. But if anyone’s interested, I do have an armadillo in a pinny that sings Barry Manilow covers…

Tim has neglected to tell effect of a custard-gin-marshmallow cocktail. Does such thing make Tim Very Super Sad & Naughty??

  11. fb on November 2nd, 2006 3:54 pm

I usually only post one song a day, but to contribute a small gesture to this big group gesture of support, I put up a selection of songs to cheer up anyone who needs to be cheered up, or who wants to be cathartically sad, or to pretty much suit any sad/happy or happy/sad or sad/sad or happy/happy or any combination thereof kind of mood.

  12. Rachel on November 2nd, 2006 5:08 pm

Yeah!!! Coxon I have missed you so! And I am so glad that upon your return you are welcomed back with one of your favorite Radiohead songs. Cheers!

FiL, you know of course now that you have arrived the party can begin. A party without my favorite Armadillo is no party worth having. :)

fb, awesome choice of songs I see, some I am not familiar with, can’t wait to listen when I get home.

Thank you all for your support and love!

  13. Tim Young on November 3rd, 2006 9:21 am

Good to know that our thoughts are working Rachel :)

FiL .. how could you suggest such a dirty cocktail .. do you know what that would do to me!??
