Must admit I have been feeling a bit blue lately…

Just feel like I am stuck in a rut and just can’t bring myself out of it. There are some changes I know need to be made and will be in the next few months but for now I got to do something for me, I have to make a change and do something GOOD for myself. I am getting off my booty and getting active. After work I will not pass go and I will not collect $200 dollars, I will change and go for a walk/run while the traffic dissipates. I will get my endorphins flowing and feel better on so many levels. It is time, I have hit bottom on the laziness front and it is time for that to change.

Now on to the music, I went on a hunt. I wanted to hear a new singer-songwriter like Cat Power or Emiliana Torrini and I found Jenn Grant a Canadian singer-songwriter who has a voice that is gorgeous and the music she creates helps you get rid of the day. I get lost in it, my favorite part.

p.s. Check out her most recent album Echoes. Love it.

It has been awhile… My apologies. I really have not had a chance to sit down and type out a few words about some of the new music I have been listening to recently, it has been a busy couple of weeks to say the least. I am here now though and wanted to share the new album from the multi-instrumental group Horse Feathers, Thistled Spring is dark and beautiful just like their 2008 album House With No Home, which was one of my favorite albums of 2008. Thistled Spring is a definite contender for favorite albums of 2010, it is just gorgeous.

But it’s hot and I think we all know how I feel about hot weather. I am keeping cool listening to Emy Reynolds an LA based singer-songwriter who was most recently heard on Grey’s Anatomy a few weeks back. Very nice because she is not so easy to find especially if you are like me and rebel against the iTunes Store. Stupid m4a files, nobody likes you!

Anyways I hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday and hope this delightful music helps to brighten your day as it has mine.

Short but sweet sums up this post and this lovely little EP.  Enjoy!

Ode to the Stubborn 2009

Short post tonight as I just want to relax with a glass of wine and some delicious Brie cheese, I came home and hit play and smiled. Jason Collett’s new album is growing on me more and more each day. Sit back with me and enjoy some wine, cheese and good tunes? Yes please!

Wow! I woke up in the worse mood this morning. Just annoyed with every little thing that is coming at me. Watch out people, I bite! I am bummed for so many reasons… One of them being that this glorious rain we have been receiving is on its way out. I have loved every second of it and I know that saying, “all good things must come to an end” but I don’t want to hear it right now.

Radiohead is putting on a benefit concert for Haiti this Sunday in LA @ The Fonda. I wish I was in a position to bid on these tickets and help out the people of Haiti as well as see my loves. This is just not an option right now for me… Which is completely depressing but I am very pleased that Radiohead has taken time out of the studio to do their part to help this country in peril. If I could I would be there in a split second.

In other news the new Eels album was released this week…

I totally wish I was more excited for it, but unfortunately only a few songs off this 14 track album made it on to my playlist. Mark Oliver Everett the bluesy singer-songwriter is not quite at his best on his new album, but there are a few noteworthy tracks to check out so I wouldn’t ignore it completely by any means. You never know, it could always grow on me.

Hopefully this day will pick up… It’s Friday anyway so that is indeed a good thing.

lissie-why you runnin'

I came across Lissie while trolling through eMusic the other day. First off, I am not a big country fan, however I do not really feel like she is as country as she has been labeled, borderline. I would classify her music as indie folk/singer-songwriter with a Mississippi mud influence…. Kind of like Band of Horses, which is not a coincidence considering the bassist produced this 5 track EP. Lissie hails from Rock Island, IL where my father grew up. She has a small town feel to her music, her lyrics are simple and easy to relate to. Her voice billows through the speakers and right into your heart. She has a ton of soul and I am intrigued to say the least. A couple of the songs off the EP crossed a little too far over my Country threshold but man she shows major promise and I cannot wait to hear more from her. Enjoy!

Matthew Mayfield

Hello world! Something romantic and beautiful this Friday morning to take you into the weekend. Matthew Mayfield is a singer songwriter from Birmingham, AL and he creates delightfully sweet acoustic guitar driven songs. This song comes from his 2008 EP, The Fire. His new album comes out next week, Five Chances Remain Hers.

Sorry for the ever so quick post but I am off to get ready for work now, enjoy!

p.s. did I mention he is a cutie :-)

I was home from work today, seemed to have come down with a little bit of a stomach bug… Not fun. I rested all day and snuggled in bed and I am feeling much better now.

Laura Gibson’s new album, Beasts Of Seasons is just brilliant.  An intimate, delicate and touching third full length album from this Portland based singer songwriter. Laura Gibson’s voice is beautiful and the songs are folk inspired earthy melodies mixed with Gibson’s jazz infused voice. It is truly lovely.

This is really how beaitiful it is outside right now…

It has been a glorious weekend… I did nothing and it rained off and on… Beautiful white fluffy clouds graced us in the afternoons, rainbows, rain and even waterspouts just South in Huntington Beach, which is kind of scary, but hey my philosophy is that any weather in Southern California is good weather. Anything different than sunny and 75 degrees is just fine with me… I suppose some would probably ask what I am doing in sunny California then and I ask myself the same question… But for now this is home until something else presents itself further North.

It was nice to just relax and watch recorded old episodes of Saturday Night Live and the 1998 film, Happiness. I have had a  busy couple of weeks at work… *sigh*

The Grammy’s are on tonight… *crickets*

God bless Blind PilotIsrael Nebeker and Ryan Dobrowski are the duo who create beautiful guitar arrangements on their 2008 album 3 Rounds and a Sound… Israel Nebeker sings dreamy melodies that make the heart pitter patter. And get this… Not only can they create amazing music but they went on a bike tour together hauling all the equipment behind them to city after city… Talented and earth friendly… Yummy. Check out their tour schedule for dates in your area but make sure to also check their blog for updates on cancellations and general info.

MILK the new Gus Van Sant film was released this week at the ArcLight in Hollywood… Figured I would try to catch the 4PM showing today… Silly me. They closed down Sunset Blvd and Hollywood Blvd not to mention the surrounding streets for a parade! WTF? So I had to find out what Parade closed down the streets of Hollywood… It was the Hollywood Santa Parade 2008… WTF? Drove to Hollywood and got stuck in surface street traffic and missed the showing of a film I was looking forward to seeing all weekend long. Whatever, I feel somewhat to blame as they did have an announcement on the front page of the ArcLight website, although if you go through Google you wouldn’t see it anyway.

Needless to say I was quite pleased to return home to relax and enjoy my Sunday evening while listening to Lisa Hannigan. Lisa is darling and if I could I would love to put her in my pocket and have the ability to pull her out every opportunity to get a custom life soundtrack. I wonder if that sounds appealing to Lisa Hannigan? Probably not. Hannigan has been accompanying Damien Rice on stage and in studio for the better first half of her career, she has recently released her solo debut Sea Sew and it is a wonderful. I look forward to hearing more from her in the future, she is definitely someone I plan on keeping my eye on. She just recently signed with ATO Records but the album itself has been available through iTunes and eMusic for awhile now. She was also just featured on the Nov. 20th episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
