Taken By Trees-East of Eden

Yesterday was the longest day of my life as I have been sick for the  last 3 days, it hit me Friday like a ton of bricks but yesterday was certainly the worse of it. I call it “Snot Fest 2009”, charming I know.

Anyways, Taken By Trees has a new album and I love the new direction she has taken with her music, a collaboration between her gentle indie pop vocals and Pakistani musicians adding a beautiful exotic touch, a perfect merriment of sounds. Well done, indeed.

xx-the xx

Hmmmm. The xx is a UK based group that has knocked my socks clear off with their alternative pop that is perfectly suited for some late night soul searching, sharing of souls in the night time air or driving home at midnight when you are one of the only cars on the road. Always the unexpected surprises are the best, this album has filled me up and brought a smile to my face as it welcomes me home.

ZAZA-Cameo

OK… So… It’s hot. It is blazing. In fact I do not remember the last time it was this hot. It has been a very long week, work has been crazy busy and my days have been long. Tonight though I just want to lie back, relax and listen to some chill music. ZAZA is a small band hailing from Brooklyn, NY, their debut EP is like a bowl of yummy shoegazer ice-cream. Perfect on a blistering summer night. LOVE.

Lightning Dust

Oh dear… I just feel so uninspired lately. I think I am just in one of those summer ruts, I need a break from everything, I need to just go out and experience a bunch of the things that I love doing, new activities, old favorites. I have not gone to a movie in forever, how sad is that? I need a vacation from work, sometimes it seems that is all I do. So I have been trying to figure out where to go… San Francisco? The Desert? (wait I would melt in the Desert so scratch that one off the list). I live at the beach so there is no reason to go to another beach… I don’t know… Maybe I should see if any of my favorite bands are playing anywhere interesting and go there. That might work.

While I figure out where to enjoy some of my paid time off, I have been listening to Lightning Dust and Amber Webber’s vocals shine as always. This side project of fellow band mates Black Mountain is stripped down to the minimum to showcase the dark melodies with just the right amount of twang. I like it. :-)

True Blodd

I just started watching the first season of True Blood today, I had to see what all the hype was about of course. I won’t deny it… Pretty much hooked at this point but I don’t know how satisfied with it I am. At least with this first season, it just seems rather awkward at times and some of the characters seem a little forced to me. Over all I am intrigued though and I can certainly say that I am officially hooked.

Now on to the music, when I first heard the intro song I thought for sure it must be Chris Isaak, however I was incorrect. Bad Things is sung by Jace Everett who is much more country western than Chris Isaak will ever be. But yet this song has a lot of similarities to Chris Isaak’s, Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing … Too similar you think? I don’t know, I mean he does put his own swing on it…

Now, I know this might be a surprise to some people, stones might be thrown for this country western pick but I am prepared to stand behind this fun and naughty little ditty.

John Vaderslice

Really not in a good place this evening. I don’t know but I am just extremely pissed off and can not bring myself out of it. It started with a request for a day off to be denied. I was being nice asking for it off but now that is no longer the case. So this was at the end of day today and then I sat in that annoying stop and go traffic. I was livid to say the least. I needed to vent though.

I enjoy John Vanderslice, quite a bit actually. I find his voice original and distinct and his music is familiar yet he continues to push and explore where it can take him. His new album Romanian Names was released back in May there were a few tracks which made it onto the pod and this is one of them…

Really quick post tonight and I kind of have a lame excuse as well… I got a Wii for my B-day (yes I feel old by the way) so I want to play it. I grew up playing Nintendo, I can’t resist.

But I do have some awesome new music from a young band who hails from Glasgow Scotland, we all know how much I adore the Scottish lads. I have really fallen in love with their soaring guitar driven indie rock and of course Adam Thompson’s vocals are so very yummy.

St. Vincent

Quick post today… I have been listening to St. Vincent’s new album Actor for a little while now, it was released back in May and has received some rave reviews. It is a wonderful yet eerie delight, but some of the songs just didn’t jive with me, a few gems made it on to the ipod.

Wilco (The Album)

I know I have been MIA for the last few days… Internet has been down and I was out and about for the holiday.

Puma has been much better… She is still limping but putting a lot more weight on it then she was. Making sure she is resting as much as possible, she is a cat so it makes the whole resting thing pretty much like a walk in the park. I am fine but I am contemplating buying new pillows.

A lot to post this week. Starting off with Wilco. First off I must confess, not the biggest fan… Their music has just never really gelled with me… Of course there is always room for the exception. Their sixth album in 2007, Sky Blue Sky seemed to be the strongest to date. Their music grows on me and plants its Americana roots into my musical heart. Now with their seventh full length album, Wilco (The Album) seems to draw from all of their previous works to create some of the most beautiful Americana, folk/pop arrangements that distinctively characterize the music of Wilco. They have really come into their own and I am enjoying every moment of it.

Moby

I am feeling quite blue :(

Broken, bruised and tired. We have been falling apart over here. I woke up Monday morning to pain in my neck, I must have slept on it wrong so I have had a dull ache for the last couple of days. Now, Puma is limping… I don’t want to run to the vet but I can’t stand seeing her in pain. I am not really sure what to do… Run to the vet or give it a couple of days? Sigh…

Moby… Dear sweet geeky Moby. Perfect for where I am tonight. His new album Wait For Me takes you on a ethereal carpet ride through the starry night sky. Just beautiful.
