Shake It Out – Florence + The Machine
Ceremonials 2011 (Universal Republic)
Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to playAnd every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues strong
It’s always darkest before the dawnAnd I’ve been a fool and I’ve been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I’m always dragging that horse aroundAll of these questions, such a mournful sound
Tonight I’m gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues strong
But it’s always darkest before the dawnShake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaaahAnd it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woahI am done with my graceless heart
So tonight I’m gonna cut it out and then restart
Cause I like to keep my issues strong
It’s always darkest before the dawnShake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaahAnd it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woahAnd it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
And given half the chance would I take any of it back
It’s a fine romance but it’s left me so undone
It’s always darkest before the dawnOh woah, oh woah…
And I’m damned if I do and I’m damned if I don’t
So here’s to drinks in the dark at the end of my rope
And I’m ready to suffer and I’m ready to hope
It’s a shot in the dark aimed right at my throat
Cause looking for heaven, for the devil in me
Looking for heaven, for the devil in me
Well what the hell I’m gonna let it happen to meShake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaahAnd it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woahShake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaahAnd it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah

Summer Mix 8 Track Style
Filed Under Music Mix Up | 2 Comments
Laguna Beach, CA
I have been wanting to try 8 Tracks for quite some time, but Tara Whitney convinced me to get off my lazy bum and finally do it. I have been putting together a lot more mixes this summer, which is refreshing and fun. It brings me back to my mix tape days and reminds me to not be so lazy about my music listening. Below is an mp3 from the 8 Track Mix for your enjoyment.

No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
Last night I was one of the lucky ones. I was able to see Florence + The Machine at The Wiltern. Amazing doesn’t fully describe the show… I was blown away by how good this show actually was. The crowd was a little restless, but when she came out all was forgotten. Nothing else mattered but the music and Florence Welch’s soaring vocals. She was born to sing and boy does she belt out each and every note with perfect pitch and tone.
The set list began with Drumming Song and from the first beat of the drum beside her microphone, I was hooked. If I could, I would be seeing her again tonight at her last show in LA. Florence + The Machine is a band you never want to miss live. Nothing can top her high-reaching vocals, delicate quirky melodies and her fantastic performance. She engages the audience and has the magical ability to get the whole theater jumping up and down happily to the final song for the evening, Dog Days Are Over. Phenomenal.
Catch her live on Saturday Night Live – Saturday Nov. 20th

Noah and the Whale – The First Days of Spring
This band has become one of my favorite bands… Their 2nd full length album has taken my breath away and brought tears to my eyes on more then one occasion. Their debut album Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down was one of my favorite albums of last year and it is still on constant rotation. I was a little hesitant to put, First Days of Spring on my favorite list because of the two instrumental tracks on the album… Not sure of the purpose, even when listening to the album from front to back it just pulls me right out of the album. Aside from those 2 tracks it is an album that I never want to end.

Florence + The Machine – Lungs
This album is something magical indeed… Another debut album that contains some of the songs from their EP but uncovers so much more to this UK band. The vocals of Florence Welch howl throughout the entire album with big drum rhythms to carry it all along. Lungs is brilliant, epic and dense and leaves me wondering what the hell is next?

Grizzly Bear – Veckatimest
I think this comes as no surprise, the album is brilliant. I was not a fan of their 2006 album Yellow House but I felt like this album had a more distinct direction. Most of all their music has progressed, their music is something I will compare other indie rock experimental music to in the future and that is a pretty high honor. From beginning to end this album is filled with amazing highs and some delicate dark lows. I love every moment.
mp3:Â Two Weeks
We Were Promised Jetpacks – These Four Walls
Soaring guitar driven indie rock and the lead singer Adam Thompson belting out lyrics with his delicious Scottish accent. Yes please! I love this album, it was a huge surprise and it has become one of my most listened to albums of 2009. Great driving music, great indie rock. Can’t wait to see them live in February.
mp3:Â It’s Thunder And It’s Lightning
This concludes my favorite albums of 2009… A short list this year but I do have an honorable mention list in the works. I wanted to say thank you for sharing another year of music with me and I look forward to 2010. xx

Florence… Sweet Florence
Filed Under Album Picks | 2 Comments
I adore this song right now… LOVE. I play it loud and then I repeat it over and over. I first heard it on KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic and as soon as I could get my hands on it, it was on constant repeat. I could go on and on all day about Florence Welch, the unique, magnificent voice of Florence and the Machine. In an interview she spoke about her music, “I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree, or off a tall building, or as if you’re being sucked down into the ocean and you can’t breathe,” says Florence Welch. “It’s something overwhelming and all-encompassing that fills you up, and you’re either going to explode with it, or you’re just going to disappear.” And that is about where I melted from the awesomeness that is her. I think she is the bees knees. Her new album, Lungs is set to be released October 20, 2009 but is currently available now for download.
