That Year
I can’t fully express what this song means to me. Every word resonates with me and how ironic that it shuffles on today… After all of these years I can’t say we are friends but I can say that I have grown past all of it, I have grown more than I ever imagined I could. Cheers to that.

“That Year”
I must have been sleeping
I must have been drinking
I haven’t been dreaming about you for years
There was a sharp turn and a sunburn
I was too cool for high school that yearIt must have been New Years
No one invited you
You took things too far
But I miss you
And your antics
You were lonesome
And blue eyed
And so special to usYou should have taken a long break
Instead of a long drop from a high place
Ten years I never spoke your name
Now it feels good to say it
You’re my friend againHe said he forgave you
I said I hated you
He was the bigger man
I was sixteen
All the innocence
It took for
You to finally make the year book
That year
That yearYou should have taken a long break
Instead of a long drop
Instead of a leap of faith
Ten years I never spoke your name
Now it feels good to say that
You’re my friend again
You’re my friend againI was angry
I was a Baptist
I was a daughter
I was wrong

Wow! That’s such a gorgeous song! Thanks!
This is easily on of the best records of the last decade, and she put on the best performance I’ve ever seen
I just saw her live a couple of weeks ago and she sang this song. AMAZING, as was the entire performance. I was literally hoping it would never end! So, so good live. I will make sure to see her again next time she’s in the SF Bay Area.

I can’t wait to hear her new album “Bear Creek” on June 5th! I just came across a video of her recording one of her songs from it called “Hard Way Home.” Definitely check it out: http://www.vevo.com/watch/brandi-carlile/hard-way-home/USSM21200691
