Something dark and mysterious to take us into this long Holiday weekend. I for one cannot wait for 3 glorious days of relaxation and good times. This past week has been quite trying, looking forward to better times ahead.

I have been listening to a lot of new music recently but I have not had a lot of time to put my thoughts on the screen. The Antlers have released Burst Apart, the follow up to their 2009 debut album Hospice. Their new album shows that the band can sit down and push themselves even further. The experimentation with layers of electronic dreamy pop that is dark and emotive. Proving that their debut album was just the very beginning.

This is my favorite Led Zepplin song. I needed to listen to this song today… It relaxes me, reminds me to take a moment and just breathe. Sometimes I need to be reminded.

For the record I have never been to Pomona, CA in my entire life, it is not exactly the kind of place you would go to just hang out. When I found out that it was the only way I could see The Kills live I jumped at the chance. I never thought I would be going to see The Kills… But their new album has given me a whole new appreciation for their garage indie-rock style. It is not that they have done anything different on their new album Blood Pressures, but they have managed to create a gritty guitar driven record backed with Allison Mosshart’s bad-ass rocking vocals and they have done it better than they have ever done it before. The two are that much better live, they stepped on stage and rocked that theater. I sung and danced my ass off. I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage for a second as the two ooze rock and roll. They have quickly become one of my favorite bands and Blood Pressures will be high on my year end list that is a given. If they come around again to your area they are a must see.

Meh. Sums me up right about now. I have very little left in me this evening. Just the music… Always the music.

Everything is Burning is a beautiful singer-songwriter folk song, absolutely what I need this evening. Check out the rest of their new EP, Fathers Be Kind, quiet gorgeous. They create unique indie rock folk songs about family, faith, disbelief and all around life.

Fathers Be Kind EP 2011

It has been pretty quiet around here, I have been writing a paper for the last week of my life. Finally finished it last night then got to class tonight and he assigned the final. Eeeeeeekkkkk. Just 2 more weeks left and then I am free for the summer months at least.

Anyways, on to the music. Currently playing on my headphones The Head and the Heart. The Seattle based band has recently signed with Sub Pop and re-released their self-titled debut album. A collection of singer-songwriter Americana folk songs that will get you up dancing and humming along, I guarantee it. A new band, the passion and fundamental spark is there and I cannot wait to see what comes next.
