I have been listening to the new album from Bat For Lashes (Natasha Khan)… This is the second full length album from this England based songwriter. Although there were only a couple of tracks I enjoyed from her first album, Fur and Gold her second album has certainly appealed to me differently. Her music is really quite visual, colors flow and dance around with so much grace, it is just so very beautiful… So I thought it was highly appropriate to post a song off her new album, Two Suns as it is one of my favorite songs off the album and  one of my favorite songs of 2009 so far.

Highly appropriate because the Contrast Podcast posted Part 2 of our Favorite songs of 2009 so far. Go have a listen! And if you missed last weeks you can find it here.

i really liked what i’ve heard from two suns, as well. i didn’t pay much attention to her last album but this one is different, as you say. she has a lovely voice, too.

Her voice is lovely indeed. This album surprised me, it was an unexpected treat. :-)

i think 2009 is shaping up to be a killer year for music, don’t you? better than 2008 already and it’s only april!

I totally agree! I am excited where last year I was underwhelmed :-) hehe

Ok, ladies! I’ve really tried to like this… I love to love female vocalists, but I’m not feeling Bat For Lashes at all. I guess I’m not seeing anything new, original, even tweaked from what I’ve heard. It seems that for every track I hear I can think of one that does what she’s doing, but better. Am I crazy/wrong? Beautiful voice, yes… but stretch it! Take me somewhere with that talent you’ve got… I want to be either achingly moved or completely dumbfounded by the direction you’ve gone to with so much beauty. Maybe I’m listening to too much “noise” lately, hahahha

I understand what you are saying, the album as a whole is not my cup of tea but she has some songs like, “Moon And Moon” that just take my breath away personally. :-)

“daniel” is the song that does it for me.

but i know what you mean tart, and i agree about wanting to be moved and shaken and taken somewhere new.

i guess what i like about her is that she’s not a “little girl” singer, which i simply can’t abide. i think she has potential to grow into quite a wonderful artist.

all i can hear is tori amos. im not totally impressed.

That is so odd because I totally do not think of Tori Amos when I hear her albums… That is so funny :-)

I didnt appreciate bat for lashes until i went into a emotional state where the only thing i could bare to listen to was bat for lashes. Try going to the seaside at 2am in the morning with still air, get on the boat ramp, with lots of thoughts going through your head, then you will realise nothing else suits moments like that half as much as bat for lashes does.

must be deaf and also not a musician if you think this is tori amos. vocally, nothing alike. piano-wise, no. slightly rachael yamagata in Moon & Moon, maybe.

this artist takes influences and bends them enough into her own music. this is only her 2nd album which has leapt far from the 1st so lots more room to grow still.
