Beck: Guilty of Awesome
Where to start? I feel like I have grown up with Beck in a way… Like we went to High School together. There has been such a progression in his music over the years it is inspiring. Beck manages to capture an entire era in any one of his songs. His music evolves and he recreates his sound according to the times and very few can accomplish this. Modern Guilt does not disappoint, it is sophisticated, funky and smart. Highly recommended.

On my first couple of listens, I’m not sure I agree. While I kinda like the sound/style of the music, I’m also finding it a bit dull. Nothing’s really jumping out and grabbing me. Maybe it’s a grower.
I hear what you are saying… I mean on my first couple of listens nothing really grabbed me from the start either but then as I listened to the album over again I picked out a couple of tracks that stood out for me. I mean the entire album didn’t grab me but I think it is a solid 10 track album.
Hopefully it will grow on you. I want to try to catch him at the Hollywood Bowl in Sept.
Still have yet to see him live and we live in the same city. Shame on me.
rachel me too!
i just got really really back into him about three months ago and he has been on contstant revolving listen since. :)
dude hollywood bowl-september-me and you.
I’ve seen him live three times.
Always at festivals and he puts on one hell of a show. Though worryingly, the recent reviews I’ve read have said that he’s just started standing there doing nothing. Hope it’s not true.
Tara that would be awesome! I will find out when the tickets go on sale.
Richard, I have heard he does put on a hell of a show, I hope this doesn’t change though… That would suck… I blame it on the Scientology (just kidding)
I just love the sounds of his voice. a little lazy and sleepy. love him, ill have to listen to the album a few times before i can make a call.
my FAVE beck song is que onda guera. LOVE THAT one.
it means “where you going whitey?”
actually, que onda guero is like saying “what’s up man”. beck is always great. he’s ahead of all of us. i have about 9 cd’s and the one i thought i disliked the most the first time i listened to it (stereopathic soul manure), i ended up liking the most. i think most people either get it or they don’t.
