A lot has been going on behind the scenes…2007 was a tough year for me work wise. After the company I was working for sold and everyone lost their jobs, I had a really hard time finding work that challenged me and kept me busy and I also had a hard time finding people I enjoyed working with! That is a big deal for me, because quite frankly I am an only child and I just don’t play well with others. Anyways I was even considering going back to school full time to finish off my BA but I just couldn’t do it financially (but that doesn’t mean I won’t be going part-time). In January I got a job working on websites in LA and I was working there for a few weeks but the traffic was killing me and I didn’t feel challenged at all and I knew I was not going to be happy there in the long run.

So I went South to the OC and I found a job working at a printing company, as an account executive doing a little bit of everything and I immediately felt I fit right in, I am happy.  This is why it has also been so quiet around here, since I have been adapting to this new job but I will find the groove. :-)

In the mean time I wanted to just post a cover of Arcade Fire, done by the lovely Calexico. Enjoy! I will be back tomorrow with some new music.

This might sound odd considering we’ve never met, but for some strange reason it’s kind of important to me that you are happy. I guess it’s because you always seem to be such an upbeat person, and people seem to put more of an effort into being miserable and doing nothing about it than to change things in an attempt to be happier. My job is filled with immense presuure and incredible responsiblity; it’s that challenge that drives me each and every day. You sound like you know where you want to go, and I’ll always hope everything works out for you.

i’m glad you listened to your inner voice and didn’t settle for something you didn’t really like. here’s to persevering and being true to yourself until the right thing came along! :)

Cheers! Thanks guys I am certainly one of those people who never settles, being happy at your place of work is so important for all of us!

Inspiring. I’m not really crazy about where I work and I’m starting to feel like I’ve settled too much. Esp. since I live in a part of the world with a severe labour shortage (therefore too many jobs to choose from), I really should follow your example.

    Good luck and best wishes!

Hey. Finding a challenging job is a lifetime challenge in itself. Most jobs that come across are just boring and other leave you under constant pressure like Chris’. And the each can be unbearable for some people in the long run.

I just want to thank you for all your posting. I’ve learned about a lot of cool music from your blog.

Mentok, awww you inspire me too, you only just went back to work and if you are not happy being over worked by that boss of your’s then make yourself happy! You always told me that!

    Piotr, thank you so much!

I hear you loud and clear on jobs and while I was not made redundant from my old main career in the potography industry ( worked for Kodak & Boots UK for a total of 15yrs between the two ), I got restless knowing the digital revolution would end my job at some point in the next 10yrs, so decided to take the HUGE leep and find another career path, tried one new one out and didnt like it as it didnt fit my personality at all

Then by accident found a job which I thought was back in a photography area, how wrong was I, it was medicine and well having been in this job now for over 3yrs I love it and have none of those morning thoughts I used to have in “omg why do I have to go in today” , the people I work with are all professors or senior consultant surgeons, junior docs and I not treated as an outsider not being a doctor but treated now as an expert in the field I work in, which 3 co-authored medical papers behind me and now doing research for UK Gov Health Dept. I now giving something back to patients who are fearful of loosing their sight in the work I do….. massive direction change so I knwo what your going through Rachel and I wish you as much happiness and sucess in your new job as I’m having in mine ~:O)
