Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová
Filed Under Music Mix Up, News & Info.
I was actually in tears after watching Markéta’s acceptance speech at the Academy Awards last night. I was so thrilled to see this duo win an Oscar for their song, Falling Slowly. So well deserved and that makes me smile. So I had to post their acceptance speech, actually Markéta got cut off but they brought her back out so that she could actually have her moment and boy did she shine. So in honor of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová…

Kudos indeed; she was magnificent in her acceptance speech! I didn’t watch the Oscars, but I did receive a phone call just before their performance to watch; I also tuned in to this portion of the show. I thought it was interested because the usually long-winded Glen didn’t really talk very long. I really hate when award shows do that…shame on the Academy. I don’t know if it was Jon Stewart’s idea to bring her back out, but if it was, kudos to him as well.
Jon Stewart – a class act for making that happen. I am really excited that they won the Oscar – it was well deserved.
I posted a review of Hansard and Irglova’s recent concert in Portland, a Once movie review and also a bit about the Oscars on my blog. You’ll just have to scroll down on the right side and click on the “Glen Hansard” label to find all of it. http://isorski.blogspot.com/
Joe, kudos indeed. I was so excited and I thought their performance was excellent as well.
Isorski, yeah I am not sure if it was Jon’s idea or not but he is a class act. I will have to check out your blog for those reviews. :)
I really, really loved this acceptance speech. It’s the kind of thing that makes me want to grab all my friends and make shorts again. I had mixed feelings about Once as a film, but I really loved the music and the people in it. I think now that I’ve had a chance to reflect upon it I had mixed feelings because I wanted more of that love story. Those two are just amazing people… I hope they’re up to something else behind the scenes.
At last a decent song wins Best Song. Normally it is some Disney schlock.
And I think No Country For Old Men is by far the best film to win Best Film for a long time. Although I still would have picked There Will Be Blood.
Stewart’s class move (his idea or not) to Irglová was a remarkable moment in an otherwise unremarkable Oscars. This song brought down my Oscar pool score (I had bet on the academy being stupid and tasteless as usual) but I can’t begrudge them that. It’s a nice song and for more worthy of recognition than any of that Enchanted crap.
Yeah I was kind of surprised that it won as well.
That is funny Mentok we do the same thing, except we tied the shorts are what get me every time!
damn its gone and i didnt get to see.
stewart is the hottest short guy ive ever known. ;)
Fixed, slightly lower quality, but I’ll keep an eye out for another.
