The Manchester Orchestra
This band hails from Georgia and their new album, I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child (September 2006) is really a solid album, it is quite surprising actually. This band seems to be unknown to those outside of Atlanta, Georgia but I think they deserve a listen. They are currently touring and have a handful of show listings on their myspace. Enjoy!

There is only one Manchester (UK) – accept no imitations.
Their old EP is pretty good too. Good to see them get some attention outside our lovely city.
If you’re interested in more Atlanta acts, I highly recommend The Selmanaires, Anna Kramer, and The Preakness.
anon, I don’t really think the Manchester Orchestra is trying to imitate Manchester UK. :P
Rich, yes there EP is just as strong, I believe they lost a member since 2005 but doesn’t seem to affect the dynamic of the sound.
Thanks for those hometown recommendations, I will check them out. :)
I’ll second the praise for Manchester Orchestra’s release. btw- they also have a podcast as well.
A couple of other Atlanta bands that I am keeping an eye on are Sovus Radio, Kill Gordon, and Snowden.
Where have you been took my breath away. Think I listened to it for an hour…
Hey, good tracks….. Thanks for posting.
I’ll go ahead and add Deerhunter, All the Saints, and the Black Lips onto the Atlanta bands to watch for list.
