Slow Show

Feel ever so defeated this evening.

I have a frown that just won’t turn right side up.

I guess you can call it the Monday blues… Although, I think in the end it is a bit more than that.

What is more perfect then The National on this cloudy Monday evening? I can think of nothing else. I am sure you have come across The National in recent news, magazines or other music blogs but their fifth full length album, High Violet was released last week…We will get to that in coming days. but tonight I want to revisit one of my favorites off their 2007 album, The Boxer.

I love these lyrics…

mp3:  Slow Show

The Boxer 2007 (Beggars)

Available on eMusic

xx

Standing at the punch table swallowing punch
can’t pay attention to the sound of anyone
a little more stupid, a little more scared
every minute more unprepared

I made a mistake in my life today
everything I love gets lost in drawers
I want to start over, I want to be winning
way out of sync from the beginning

I wanna hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I’m very, very frightening
I’ll overdo it

Looking for somewhere to stand and stay
I leaned on the wall and the wall leaned away
Can I get a minute of not being nervous
and not thinking of my dick
My leg is sparkles, my leg is pins
I better get my shit together, better gather my shit in
You could drive a car through my head in five minutes
from one side of it to the other

I wanna hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I’m very, very frightening
I’ll overdo it

You know I dreamed about you
for twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for
for twenty-nine years

You know I dreamed about you
for twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for
for twenty-nine years

I just don’t get The National.

    I don’t hate them.

I’m just completely indifferent to them. Totally didn’t get all the praise for Boxer and still don’t get the praise for the new album.

Well in regards to Boxer I am right there with you, I thought it was OK. I have 3-4 songs from the album and I used to not listen to them at all.

Their new album I am still digesting but I have the whole album in its entirety… We will see.

This is a common feeling I think regarding The National, some people think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and some people yawn just thinking about them. I am not really sure where I stand, right now somewhere in the middle.
